New Zealand teenager Lydia Ko has banked a massive pay cheque after winning the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship tournament in a dramatic sudden-death playoff in Florida today.
In what was one of the biggest meltdowns in LPGA history, Carlota Ciganda of Spain blew a three foot birdie putt in the third playoff hole. On her next try, she pulled her approach into a hazard and made bogey.
Ko played the 18th hole five times today and made par each time. The last par was worth NZ$1.9 million.
The 17-year-old kept her banked $1.26 million dollar bonus for being the CME Globe player of the year, and another $633,000 for winning the tournament.
