One of the greatest movies of all time...

Whether he was or not is not the question... When you get a chance, try "1896 - The First Olympics".... a nice film, although as in all "historical" films, they play with the truth.

Yes, it was. It's on DVD now, probably tape. I found it enjoyable. One of the things I concluded from it was not to compare the records of the athletes of years ago to the "modern", simply because the physical conditions and training methods are so different. The winner of the pole vault did 10'10"; now the world record is over 20 feet.... two completely different events with the same name. The winner of the 1896 100 meter dash did 11.8 seconds, now the record is 9.58 seconds... but the new track conditions, with the running surfaces available today, make everyone faster... plus, of course, the training methods and science now, compared to the past. It's the same, to me, with golf records. Numbers may change, but so do other factors that generate the numbers.
