Chill out. I was joking about the Commie plot. Just trying to figure out why all the hatred against the Olympics, not just from you. It was directed at everyone who is opposed to the Olympics and to golf in them, not specifically at you.

And of course I read all the posts. I still can't figure it out.

It's not the Olympics, but the bastardization of them that I hate. Because "other countries" have paid their athletes under the table for years, you feel that making them "professional" is a good thing. To me, it undermines the games. We'll have to just disagree on this.

I don't know why people would only like amateurs to be in the olympics.
How about Usain Bolt? Should he be excluded from the olympics? How many people are going to watch some amateur running a much slower time.

Personally I think the olympics are about being the best, not the best non-professional.

Cool

I believe you've got it right, Paddy....

And where do we find "non-professionals" today....certainly not in college football, etc....a scholarship is nothing more than a "paid-to-play" situation with a coating of camo splashed on it.....

Thanks for chiming in.
My arms were getting tired trying to hold up this side of the argument all by myself.

Exactly.

I still haven't been a great fan of sports being in the Olympica that have their own competitions that are regarded as the pinnacle (e.g. slams / majors). I still personally think of those medals to be like 2nd class to the track and field event medals where the Olympics are the the thing you are mostly remembered for.

But I must confess - I do feel like a kill joy sometimes with that attitude. I certainly wouldn't wish it to be cancelled now they are having it. If the players are really excited and thrilled to participate - that's what matters more (even if most regard winning the USO more).

Since we've gotten away from talking about Michelle Wie exclusively, I've moved the latter half of this thread to the Olympics folder.
