Thumbs up

Geez, I've already heard a rumor that Cougar, the Riceroni's and Putter have volunteered to be volunteers in Rio....

OK, then let's have the Olympic golf competition at Pebble Beach instead of Rio, is that far enough away for you?

Here's a good article on golf courses available to host Olympic golf in Brazil.
---------------------------
Rio de Janeiro might well make for a spectacular host city for the 2016 Summer Olympiad. But this teeming metropolis of some 14 million residents on the southeast coast of Brazil is no golf destination. There are only two full-length, 18-hole golf courses in the city, and it is by no means clear whether Olympic golf will take place there or in an adjoining region. Among the candidates (see box below) are the coastal resort of Buzios, 100 miles to the east, and Sao Paulo, 275 miles to the southwest.

I've always thought that the idea of golf at the Olympics sucked.

If,as Blue indicated,it's going to be held in early-August,won't that prove a huge inconvenience to the LPGA,PGA and European tours ?

People suggest it will expand the game globally ;I just think it will get lost in the mix.

It could be almost as pointless as the Fedex Cup...

I didn't like the way Ty "less is more" Votaw and company went about downplaying major golf events in comparison to the Olympics. Golf has done very well over many decades, thank you, without being involved with the inherit corruption within the IOC.

I agree, the FedEx Cup is nothing more than a season long annoying commercial for FedEx with a money grab by the players at season's end. Whoop-tee-do.

I'm fairly certain that, just a few short years' ago, some of these golfers who are now enthusing about the Olympics, were singing a very different tune.

Everyone is gulping the kool-aid now.

I thought the Fedex Cup couldn't possibly be surpassed in terms of sheer pointlessness ;well, until today that was...

SJX, I'm not defending the idea of golf in the Olympics but it hasn't caused any trouble, that I've heard of, on the pro tennis circuits. As a matter of fact, all I've heard of from the pro tennis players has been how proud they were to have won a medal.

Hi ya folks...Lemme give my 2 cents...I know that my credibility has really zoomed downward with my support of Super Carolyn versus the Masses...but so be it...anyway...here is my opinion about Golf in the Olympics...I am NOT concerned about what the PGA will get out of this venture or whether or not it is good for the PGA...I am talking about what the LPGA has to gain from this

Looking at it from a LPGA fan viewpoint...I think it is a tremendous step forward for the LPGA...as we all know, the LPGA is always Hungry for Publicity and potentially gaining more viewers to watch and support their "Niche" sport....how much more Free Publicity can you get than playing in the Olympics...it will be covered by the Major Networks pretty much 24/7....you will have viewers that probably never followed golf, watching these LPGA Players....granted that the telecasts will be showing "all different kinds of events"...but at least we know, Female Golf WILL be a part of this.....now some of you might think I am in support of this just because of Wiesy...you are DEAD WRONG...nobody knows who will make it and who won't...but we do know that a LOT of LPGA Players will be in this mix...if anyone tells me that the LPGA is in a "no win" SITUATION...I say you are badly mistaken...FOR THE LPGA AND WHICHEVER PLAYERS MAKE THIS EVENT...it is a NO-Brainer WIN WIN WIN for the Player, and the LPGA as an Organization

in terms of Exposure that the LPGA would have never gotten if Golf wasn't a sport selected for the Olympics...this is PLUS exposure...PLUS PLUS PLUS

for those of you that ONLY think in terms of "the Best of the Best and NOTHING ELSE"...from an American standpoint, this is something that will always be debated...heck!, even the USA Basketball team is Missing some of the "Best of the Best"....for those "purist" that only want to see "THE GREATEST and the BEST"...the Olympics is not going to satisfy you...neither will any LPGA Tournament...there will always be someone that is Not playing that someone else thinks should be there

so what I am saying is that perhaps, if you are truly a fan of the LPGA....just having the opportunity for these ladies to show what they can do and perhaps show viewers that LPGA is terriffic stuff indeed is TRULY Better than NOT having the opportunity to show anyone anything

I know that a lot of you "purist" loved the Solheim Cup...it was truly exciting and it had super TV coverages...the LPGA came out a winner BIG TIME....but the "Best of the Best" all were NOT playing...same as the Olympics....someone's personal "Best of the best" will not be there, But the event itself will be exciting nonetheless...you can chose to either be a Pessimist and criticize this whole event if you want and critique every single flaw that you can come up with....but when the event comes around, I bet you will be watching and pulling for whichever player is representing your country...be it the "Best of the Best" or not

OR...you could just go with the flow and become an "Optimist" and enjoy the heck out of the event and the POSITIVE exposure that the LPGA is going to get out of it...this is the side of the fence that I am on...life is too darn short and global conditions are too full of Negative activity....so from my point of view, I will support whatever positives that come about...folks, aren't some of you just sick and tired of hearing "Doom and Gloom" all about you...for the LPGA, this is a WIN WIN Proposition...this organization needs every little bit of positive publicity that it can get their hands on...this Olympics Stuff is a POSITIVE step in that direction

anyway folks...this is just my 2 cents...I know that some of you naysayers will say I am supporting this event because Wiesy was one of the players that Lobbyed for it...WRONG...I was in favor of this event from way way back

anyway...have a good day folks...this is just my opinion about this event....see ya...have a good day

WF, I also am an optimist (sorry to disappoint you), however you are over-hyping the fact that that this is a "tremendous" step forward. I'm a big fan of pro tennis but honestly I recall viewing very little of the pro tennis coverage from its start in the recent Olympics. I guess if I would have purposely looked to see on which of the 2 or 3 outlets that was covering it, I would have found some exposure, but I definitly have no recollection of the sport being a prime time event for any massive audience viewing. Regardless, MSNBC and whatever else cable outlet doesn't constitute a "Major" telecast outlet guaranteed an interested audience any more than the Golf Channel, in my opinion.

Keep in mind, golf, on any level, does not attract any mass viewer interest unless it involves Tiger so therefore we are kidding ourselves that the ladies will get half as much exposure as the men. Hopefully, we don't see reduced coverage of the ladies because of focused coverage onTiger.

In the long run, it won't hurt the sport and we are also talking about an event 7 years from now. By that time, the Golf Channel will hopefully have established itself as the place for watching the LPGA and hopefully the fan base will have grown substantially and maybe even have afforded itself the opportunity for even more Olympic exposure. That is the optimitic side.
