Shin victory threatens Ochoa's No. 1 standing

Jiyai Shin won yesterday on the JLPGA. As a result, Lorena has to finish 4th or better this week on the LPGA to keep her number 1 ranking. I don't know the exact formula for the Rolex Rankings (does anyone?) but I believe the Golf Channel got their info from a reputable source.

Shin victory threatens Ochoa's No. 1 standing

The drama heightens for today’s final round at the Tres Marias Championship in Mexico.
Jiyai Shin elevated the stakes with her victory on the Japan LPGA Tour.
Can Lorena Ochoa hold her emotions in check enough to win her farewell appearance as a full-time player. Will she play well enough to hold onto to her No. 1 ranking? Will Shin ascend to No. 1 by nightfall? Can Michelle Wie win her second LPGA event?
All these questions will be answered in the shots played today in Morelia, Mexico.
The stakes ratcheted up over No. 1 with Shin winning the CyberAgent Ladies event on the JLPGA Tour in Chiba on Sunday. Ochoa must finish fourth or better now to hold onto her No. 1 ranking. If she doesn’t, Shin ascends.
Shin’s victory makes for an even more emotionally charged finish for Ochoa, whose dream is to go out with the No. 1 ranking.

Interesting. Also where does Ai end up on that ranking if she wins today?

Just a guess since the Rolex formula is a big mystery, but I believe she would move from 5th to 4th. I'm sure someone here knows this better than I do.

I have the utmost respect for Lorena but I think it is right that Shin took over the number one spot before Lorena retired. Shin earned it and there shouldn't be any controversy or negativity on who the top player is and whether it was given to her. That being said the difference between Shin, Miyazato Ochoa and Tseng at this point is razor thin. I think the Rankings after this week will be 1 Shin 2 Ochoa 3 Miyazato 4 Tseng.
Good week for all and may God bless Lorena and have a wonderful retirement.

If thats the case, Shin will be number one. As much as it would be nice for Lorena to go out as number one, I'm also happy someone topped her, and didn't just become the best because she retired.

Do you have a link to the Rolex Rankings formula? I'm trying to figure out the points for this tournament.

Blue the Rolex Rankings are so secretive that they will not show you how they arrive at their numbers. From what I could decipher from what I read. Shin would take over number one if Lorena finished 5th or worse and Miyazato would of taken over number one with a victory, Lorena finishing out of the top 10 and Shin not winning in Japan. Going by that I have to assume Miyazato is third behind Lorena and now #1 Shin. It has to be fractions though. You know what could actually be funny? Say Miyazato and Shin play bad their next tournament........ the potential is probably there for Lorena to regain number 1!
That's why I don't take the rankings too seriously.

What role do tournaments dropping off after two play? Since Lorena had a lot of wins in 2008 and only three in 2009, that must be affecting her ranking because she now only has one win in the last 52 weeks.
