Shin - no money in Thailand?

The updated LPGA money list came out and Jiyai Shin is listed 2nd rather than the expected 1st.

Looking at her stats, I see that she's been credited with 0.00 earnings for her T13 last week in Thailand.

LPGA.com

She should have gotten about $24K which would have put her just slightly above Angela Stanford and into first place so far on the official money list.

Everyone else seems to have gotten credited for their earnings.

Was she DQ'd or is it an LPGA data entry error? Anyone know what might have happened?

Shiho Oyama has not been credited with the $5,475 she won in Thailand either. Both she and Jiyai Shin were on sponsor exemptions. Only explanation I can come up with.

That (sponsor exemptions) shouldn't have anything to do with it! You're exempted into a tourney and you can't win anything? I'm going with LPGA error.

Russy Gulyanamitta and Laura Davies were also sponsors exemptions in Thailand and they have also not been credited with any earnings. I'm not saying it's right or sensible or logical but if the LPGA are going to make errors they couldn't do it so perfectly!!!

I'm pretty sure she got credit for ROY points last week. Also look at her performance page under career victories it says zero right now but it will probably only say one tomorrow. It should say 4 tomorrow. I hope they are not going to say those three victories last year (when not a member) don't count towards her hall of fame totals.

The ROY points are right, I think. And the career earnings include the Honda earnings (~$24K), but her 2009 does not include the $24K and as a result her money list standing is currently off. Click on the link in my first post and you'll see they have her results from the Honda Thailand event as T13 and earning 0.00. Makes no sense.

Yes I see that. If Lorena's money counted I can't see why Ji Yai's wouldn't. She's a LPGA member and even being a sponsors invite (which may in fact have been a Korean Tour sponsors invite) I still think it should count. If you are going to count ROY points on the LPGA, they should count the money.

Both the official money list and the "Official Money" column on Shin's greensheet are correct. Money earned by sponsor's exemptions in limited-field events is unofficial. It's been that way for years. Her "Unofficial Money" column is of course incorrect, and it will stay that way because the LPGA hasn't been updating that column on their web site for years either.

Let me illustrate the reasoning behind the rule with a hypothetical example. Suppose that after the full-field events end in the fall Anna Rawson was 81st on the official money list, only $1000 out of 80th place. She's then given a sponsor's exemption into one of the limited-field Asian event which has no cut and a last-place prize of about $3500. The rule prevents such a situation where the tour might show favoritism to one player over her peers. The idea is that the official money list represents a competition in events that players have earned their way into.

So Shin only got in to the Thailand tourney on an exemption because she won the British Open and the ADT, not being an LPGA member at the time, and her winnings don't count. Annika only won 72 tournaments, even though she actually won more tournaments worldwide than anyone else. Laura Davies is not in the HoF, because they didn't recognise whichever tournament at the time, even though someone else was credited with a major in retrospect. The LPGA needs to get its head out of its *$$.

Thanks for the explanation sag.

It would be really, really helpful if:

1. The LPGA would post their rules somewhere.
2. The rules they post would be kept up-to-date.
3. The would keep their online data accurate. Obviously the unofficial column on Shin's greensheet for Honda should say $24,239.
