| Senior Member | Rookie Slam She's already sewn up Rookie of the Year: she leads by a healthy margin over Michelle Wie and Anna Nordqvist, neither of whom are in the CVS field this week. 1. Shin 1344 points 2. Wie 684 3. Nordqvist 663 She can make some inroads on securing the Money List and Player of the Year titles as her two closest pursuers, Cristie Kerr and Ai Miyazato, are also absent from this week's event. She presently trails Kerr by 0.13 in the race for the Vare Trophy. Player of the Year: 1. Shin 136 points 2. Kerr 118 3. Miyazato 111 4. Pettersen 110 5. Stanford 97 Money List: 1. Shin $1,605,786 2. Miyazato $1,451,610 3. Kerr $1,406,271 4. Pettersen $1,321,247 Vare Trophy (scoring average) 1. Kerr 70.20 T2. Myazato & Shin 70.33 4. Ochoa 70.47 T5. Pettersen & Stanford 70.49 Kevin

Interesting about the Vare Trophy...right now, 70.20 would be the worst Vare Trophy winning average since 1996: LPGA.com-Vare Trophy Winners ...woh, Annika at 68.70 in 2002...that's just sick! Se Ri was in the 69s in both 2001 and 2002: http://www.lpga.com/content/2009Play...ak,SeRi-09.pdf ...but what can you do when Annika is going crazy low... ...back to the Rookie Slam...it is so tough to do...who knows if we'll see it again...but Nancy Lopez swept all four awards in 1978...Ji Yai has to keep going low to chase Cristie down...and look out for Ai Miyazato in the rearview as well...

With the withdrawals of Shin during the 2nd round and Pettersen after the 3rd, along with the absences of Kerr and Miyazato there were no changes in the Player of the Year and Money List standings from last week. Jiyai did drop into 4th place in the race for the Vare Trophy with her even par 72 on Thursday bumping her scoring average down to 70.36 while Lorena's 2nd place finish at the CVS moved her up to 2nd behind Cristie. Vare Trophy (scoring average) 1. Cristie Kerr 70.20 2. Lorena Ochoa 70.32 3. Ai Miyazato 70.33 4. Jiyai Shin 70.36 5. Angela Stanford 70.39 Jiyai and Angela are taking this week off and both Miyazatos are playing the Japan Womens Open, but Cristie, Lorena and Suzann are in Alabama along with Rookie of the Year runner up Michelle Wie. Jiyai is still 4th in the race for the Vare Trophy, but Lorena's successful defence of her Navistar title vaults her into the lead: 1. Lorena Ochoa 70.16 2. Cristie Kerr 70.18 3. Ai Miyazato 70.33 4. Jiyai Shin 70.36 5. Angela Stanford 70.39 Ochoa's also back in the conversation for defending her money list and Player of the Year titles: 2009 Money List 1. Jiyai Shin $1,605,786 2. Ai Miyazato $1,451,610 3. Cristie Kerr $1,422,624 4. Suzann Pettersen $1,321,247 5. Lorena Ochoa $1,209,225 Player of the Year 1 Jiyai Shin 136 2 Lorena Ochoa 131 3 Cristie Kerr 118 4 Ai Miyazato 111 5 Suzann Pettersen 110 Michelle Wie's T2 in Alabama make's Jiyai's lead for Rookie of the Year a little less of a landslide but still more of a rout: 1 Jiyai Shin 1,344 2 Michelle Wie 764 3 Anna Nordqvist 663 Now these stats take a few weeks rest before the event in Korea. No word yet on who is playing where the rest of the season, but it seems certain Jiyai will be playing Korea, Ai in Japan the following week and Lorena in her own Invitational after that. Kevin

Suzann is out with a stress fracture in her left foot, Ai-sama is on a brief vacation back here in the States (!) and Angela and Michelle are also absent from the field at the Hana Bank/KOLON Championship, but Lorena and Cristie are still there to keep the pressure on Jiyai for POTY, the Vare and the Money List titles. Jiyai Shin, who locked up Rookie of the Year long ago, was able to solidify her position atop the Money List and Player of the Year standings with her 6th place showing in Korea, especially since her main contenders were either absent (Pettersen, Miyazato) or had disappointing finishes (Ochoa, Kerr). The Vare Trophy race tightened up considerably thanks to Lorena and Cristie's poor showings in Incheon. 2009 Money List 1 Jiyai Shin $1,664,395.00 2 Ai Miyazato $1,451,610.00 3 Cristie Kerr $1,429,876.00 4 Suzann Pettersen $1,321,247.00 5 Na Yeon Choi $1,221,359.00 6 Lorena Ochoa $1,216,475.00 7 Yani Tseng $1,191,852.00 8 In-Kyung Kim $1,184,930.00 9 Angela Stanford $1,064,004.00 10 Paula Creamer $1,033,873.00 Player of the Year 1 Jiyai Shin 141.00 2 Lorena Ochoa 131.00 3 Cristie Kerr 118.00 4 Ai Miyazato 111.00 5 Suzann Pettersen 110.00 6 Na Yeon Choi 106.00 7 Yani Tseng 104.00 8 Angela Stanford 103.00 Vare Trophy (scoring average) 1 Cristie Kerr 70.31 2 Lorena Ochoa 70.32 3 Ai Miyazato 70.33 4 Jiyai Shin 70.38 5 Angela Stanford 70.39 6 Suzann Pettersen 70.47 7 Yani Tseng 70.52 8 Na Yeon Choi 70.55 Kevin

She may win all 3 but it certainly was not a dominating year ala an Annika 10 or 11 win season. No one had a killer year. |

I think Shin had a pretty fair year winning the ROY, a good lead on THE TOP$$$ for 2009 and a pretty good darn chance at earning the Vare Trophy..... How many of these did Annika win her Rookie year??? Last edited by JJfan; 11-03-2009 at 08:35 PM. Reason: Changed from 09 money winner to a good chance at 09 money winner. |
