Smile Junkie? Jiyai Shin

Did I get your attention?

Anyway, I don't want you to think that Jiyai is a drug addict but she did admit to be an adrenalin junkie, which in competition is a good thing.

Q. Because you play well on Sunday, and you've won and she has not won, do you think you have an advantage tomorrow?
JIYAI SHIN: I think that's a big thing. I think because I play a lot of time with Na Yeon Choi in Korea and also LPGA Tour. But also last Sunday she lost the score just a couple of times because she never win at the LPGA Tour. Maybe she get big pressure and nervous, too. Also I am nervous and pressure too, but I really like the adrenalin feel. I really like that. That is a bit handy for me. I like that feel.

She may be a junkie, a sushi junkie. I saw a special on her in Korea and that woman can put some sushi away.

I heard on the telecast today that Jiyai is going to screw up her golf game for next season.

She is going to go on an exercise program in this off season in an attempt to add distance to her drives.

Remember Ian Baker Finch? I recall he did the same thing and dropped off the map until he got the announcing gig. It was shortly after he shot the 59. I recall announcers commenting this attempt at distance ruined his game.

I heard the same about Jiyai during the telecast. She averages 247 yds (Na Yeon averages 255) and the leaders are at 270 yds. Being a short hitter myself I can sympathize, but on the other hand I have not won two tournaments this year. She is the best in putting and a leader in scoring stats, so not sure how much she can improve.

I don't think Finchy shot a 59, you must be thinking of David Duval.
Anyway, yes, Ian did tinker with his swing, lost confidence and retired from competitive golf. Ian became one of those guys who couldn't do it but could talk about doing it and so he became a golf announcer.

I was mistaking his 62 round where he missed some short putts and was quoted as saying he was thinking about 59 (Williamsburg 1991). But he had shot low and the commentators were asking why he needed more length. He is okay as an announcer.
