Your driver preference?

I must admit I thought I would never use one the huge sized drivers
that are out now days, but I caved in when I went to the proshop to buy the old man a new one, I was suprised to find there was no normal sized drivers for sale anymore?.

I bought him a Taylormade Burner with a flexable shaft. His old driver was 15 years old, rusted, and stiff as anything, he went from hitting 150 meter drives to 200 meters, So he is pretty happy. And i went from hitting in the rough, to hitting them in the next fairway rough. Bloody great club.

I heard a rumor that Sam Snead once took a tree limb with a knot on it,
whittled the knot as flat as he could and still won his match against
some hot shot at a private club.

I think fitted equipment can make a vast difference.

As far as unfitted I think it's all in our heads and lightens our pockets a load.

I have driver and three wood clones of Taylor.
I have hit Taylors. I hit these just as well.

I use a TaylorMade R7. Great club. I also got their fairway woods, and like them equally well.

I just recently got the Nike Sumo. I am not hitting any farther, but it is straighter. I is a good bit bigger than my last Nike driver.

Taylor Made 580, reg shaft. Best driver I have had. Longer straighter and more consistent, 440CC.

Prior to that I had a Tri Metal, smaller head. I was usually very straight with it, but not very long.

Also I have a very compact swing and the 580 seems to be perfect for it. I generally play a small fade.

I replaced my TaylorMade for the new Cobra Speed Ld. Always like Cobra fairway
metals. Replaced irons for a set of Adams Irons and hybrids.

I got a new 460cc titanium driver a few years ago. Was very skeptical and asked the shop if I could return it because I was sure I would hate it. Surprisingly it was great. Driving farther and straighter. The people I play with, especially the older women who play four times a day, can't drive the ball very far, but beat me every time (drive for show, putt for dough in action) still look askance at it.

Well, first off let me say that I'm an excellent driver. :)

I also have the Cobra Speed LD, the '07 model that sounds like you're hitting a beer can instead of a golf ball. I've had it about 6 months, but I may go back to my Cleveland 350cc from around 2002. I can hit the Cobra more consistently straight, but I can't shape it or swing hard. Pretty much just have to use the same smooth swing every time, and that gets kinda boring.

I know it will never happen, but I'd like to see the USGA cut the driver size limit down to the old Great Big Bertha size. That was the best driver ever. I stll have a couple of them and may try to work them back into the bag and sacrifice consistency for fun.
