Sometimes I've practiced where I've hit two balls off the tee, and play the worst one. Then hit two balls to the green and play the worst one, putt two balls and play the worst one, etc. It's an interesting exercise. Speaking of Mulligans...at my club some members (99% of them men) were hitting mulligans off the first hole. They'd have the "mulligan ball" out of their pocket before the first tee shot even landed! So, they made a "rule" that if you played a Mulligan off the first tee, you HAD to play it and your first ball was out of play. This was to make them think twice about hitting a mulligan and to stop wasting time. Now...our club bans mulligans, though I'm sure people still do it. Back to the article, I think any "game" that makes practicing more interesting is good and makes it less like drudgery. Some people hate practicing. |

I use some drills, especially when practicing the short game, to make it more interesting. I've never really considered them to be "games," but you could consider them "games," I suppose. As far as "mulligans" go, I personally hate to play with someone who insists on using them. Not only are they a waste of time, they're usually just another bad shot. A friend of mine calls them "Maul it agains."
