mp he wasn't spraying that bad. He missed the fairway. To me a difference in pressing and choking

He was knee deep in the rough. He didn't miss by a little, buddy, he was well off the fairway. Like they say, when you're ass deep in alligators, it's hard to remember that the initial objective was to drain the swamp.

What caught my attention was the conservative play of Tiger's. I've not read any post-tournament press so I don't know what Tiger or the "experts" have said however i kept getting the feeling from Tiger's laying up on approaches that he wasn't playing his game but rather hoping for Yang to mistake mistakes first. He seemed to not have any confidence in his game, which is unusual for Tiger for any tournament much less the final round of a major.

Not sure Tom Watson choked as such. The shot into the green on the 18th was a great shot, he was unlucky it ran through as it did. I think when he saw where it ended up it just took the wind out of his sails. In the playoff I think he was just plain exhausted.

They interviewed Watson's caddy, Alfie Fyles, from the famous duel with Nicklaus in the 1977 British Open. Watson wanted to hit a 6 iron into the 18th green in the final round but Alfie said to go with 7 because of "adrenalin", Tom took the 7 iron and hit it to 3 feet. A birdie it turns out he needed to beat Nicklaus outright for the title. I will always wonder, what if Tom had a veteran caddy instead of a banker friend on the bag this year in the Open? Here is a link to the story. It is a short but good read. For Golfer Tom Watson, The Club And The Caddie Were Key : NPR |
