Billy Baroo putter or any club you use similarly

Caddyshack is on now and I dropped in just when Judge Smails pulls out his Billy Baroo putter on the last green to make the putt (to apparently force Danny to make his putt for the win). But if you had such a dependible putter why use it only once in a while? Maybe you pay attention more with the rarely used putter?

And it takes up space in the bag that might be used to carry a club used more often. Does anyone in the forum carry more than one putter at a time? Carry a duplicate of any single club (like two four irons).

Amazingly you can find several vendors of "Billy Baroo" putters on the internet. Some pre-date the movie (the Ray Cook version says it has been around for 3 decades and the movie was made in 1980).

I have three putters in my golf bag at the moment. I only use one so thanks for reminding me I better take the other two out.

I also use two 5 irons as I'm rarely on the fairway, one is a good 5 iron for fairways (rarely used) and the other I use for playing off rocks, dirt, and rough. I highly recommmend it if you want to keep your clubs in good condition.

I sometimes take 2 3 woods. A low profile for the fairways and an oversize from the tee. It depends on the course and how I am playing. I will alternate the 3 wood oversize with a 5 oversize. THis is course dependent. Usually it is the 5 wood I take tough. For me the 5 is good for long par 3's. The 3 if it is a course where I might want to sacrifice some distance for some accuracy on specific holes when driving. The oversize is much better on the tee then the low profile. More and more now I skip the 3 woods altogether and go with the 5 for accuracy.

Basically Driver, Oversize 5W, 7W, 3i-PW, hyb 3, 25 year old putter.

The hybrid 3 now replaceing the 3w.

xman....you don't carrry a Sand Wedge? Also, you said the Hybrid 3 is replacing the 3 Wood....er, no way can a H3 go as far as a 3W.

I don't carry two of anything, but I do change configuration of my set depending on the course I'm playing. I no longer carry (or even own) a 3 Wood, but I have a Callaway 4+ wood. Also, I switch out the hybrids depending on the course...mostly substituting a 4H for a 9W if necessary.

I have a friend who carries two putters. One is a long (48") putter for most all putts, but this golfer also carries a conventional length putter for real long putts. I don't ask about it.

I am 1 club short. All last year I wanted to get a Lob Wedge, Just never did. I can hit the Hyb 3 (19 Deg) upto 200 yds. Generally 185 to 200. I hit my 3W from the fairway about 200 yds on a good shot. Can go longer to 215 if I overhit. However the Hyb 3 will go much straighter then the 3W so I will sacrifice a little distance. At 200+ yds I am not that much worried about hitting the green, just short with an easy cheap is better then 215 yds wide right. Plus the Hyb is good in longer grass where I can not hit a Wood.

I am usually good with my irons though not long. I have no problem hitting a 3 iron, so I do not feel any need really for other hybrides. So yes I basically replace the 3 wood with the Hybr 3, for more accuracy with a little less distance.

My 3 iron is basicaclly equal to my 7 wood. Love my 7 wood. So I play a lot more 7 woods then 3 irons now. Both are my 175-185 clubs. The 3 iron gets more play if I am in rough or need to curve a shoot or need to get it up in the air. Also do a lot of chipping with the 3 iron.

But you are right, there are times when I bring the 3W because the Hyb3 is not long enough and I am feeling macho that day.

I also don't carry a 3W. I have a 5, 7 and 9W, and carry four wedges. The lowest iron I carry is a 5, and that's used mostly to get me out of trees when I need a little punch shot back to the fairway. I have a Scotty Cameron Futura putter that's been the best putter I ever owned.

Wow - some interesting posts. I can see the two putter thing, I would use a long putter for short putts (as I should yip less often) but can't seem to get lag pacing (not that I have practiced much, but it would take time).

I carry a driver and a 2w which is probably equivalent to xman's oversize 3w, and I carry a 3w, smaller head. The 2w comes out rarely, but at my regular course there are some occasions where I am in the light rough, at or more than 200 yds, and really no trouble. The light rough often lifts the ball enough for good contact. The 2w has "rails" on the bottom to keep me from digging into the ground.
