New Zealand Women's Open

The NZ Women's Open begins today with Lydia as the odds on favorite to win but there are some decent players in the field so I don't expect a run-a-way win by Lydia. Only 3 rounds so one bad round is a potential win killer.

By the way, "she" is in the field. Mianne BAGGER Hillerod, GK, Denmark

Mianne Bagger is a transgendered woman. gxer's use of quotation marks reflects his disrespect for the idea of allowing such persons to compete athletically against cisgendered women. Whether he also intends a more generalized disrespect directly towards transgendered persons themselves--that would be a different question that he may or may not choose to answer for you.

Lydia Ko second place in this event improves her raw score in the Rolex Ranking. Lydia has now a raw Rolex average points of 10.36 compared to Inbee Park ave. points of 9.96. With 25 events included in Lydia's calculation, she has an excellent chance to move into the Number 1 position when she reaches 35 events or thereabouts. She will need to play about 15 events as some of the events she played early in 2012 will be eliminated from her current Rolex statistics.

If she can do it in 2014, it will be a fantastic accomplishment for the teen ager rookie. Will be interesting to watch her performance against those of Inbee, Suzann, and Stacy.

The NZ event showcased the importance of playing par 5's well. However, in looking at the stats on the par 5's there seems to be an abnormal number of eagles in the 3 rounds, a total of 14. That seem high to me plus all of the par 5 eagles were on holes 2 and 10. Maybe those 2 holes were setup too short to be considered good par 5's.

Anyway, the winner, Mi Hyang Lee, was 10 under par on the par 5's and +1 on all the other holes.

Lydia was 6 under on the par 5's and 2 under on all the other holes.
