One New Event LPGA In 2010

.
This from the twitter area, a new event for top players - match play - 300,00.00 up for top prize - in New Jersey - in May 2010.

You guys are not watching twitter. :-)

Well that is one of the two or more events they were hinting we would see in 2010.... looks good, or what do you all think?

Now where is that second to be. :-)

Update - Ha, I forgot to put the link. Too much in a rush these days. :-)

Good way to start your term Mr. Whan. Much better than Bivens' first impression.

Good news, though I am not so crazy about the dates.

They are basically bringing back what was the HSBC Matchplay event.
I had gone to that event each time. Love match play. Back at the same course too. It's a very nice course, big hitters will do well. Watched Annika go 21 holes in a match there. Also watched a great match between Wie and Lincicome

When they had the tournament originally it was rolex top 64 (though it may have actually been 62+ 2 invites, if memory server correct).

The only problem is that it is not that close to NYC, but when it was there before there was good attendance.

This is great news, that means the schedule will be at least 25 events strong. A far cry from the 10-15 being predicted for this year back in july of 2009.

Couldn't agree more, DJ. It looks like Whan may be a good choice as a replacement.

Time will tell, MP. In late 2005, Bivens added a couple of events not long after taking over herself, so we will just have to see.

Time will indeed tell. From what I've seen of him so far, I've been impressed. He was on TGC recenty for an interview, and I liked what he had to say. Now, we'll see if he can follow it up with action. This is a good start.

Stephanie Wei has the formula for picking the 64 players

The top-48 players from the 2009 LPGA Official Money List
10 players not otherwise qualified will have the opportunity to qualify in the first two rounds of the Bell Micro Classic (essentially it’s a 36-hole qualifier and top ten finishers who didn’t finish in the top-48 on the money list will be eligible).
The top-four players not otherwise qualified from the above criteria from the 2010 LPGA Official Money List through the Bell Micro Classic
Two sponsors invites
A shame it's a limited field event, I don't remember if there was a stroke play part before. Probably better for the sponsers this way though since there is no risk of losing a top player before the match play starts. ... Not sure how they are doing the seeding though, probably in the order of the list above.

Glad to see a match play event back in the schedule! Risky for the TV coverage, but hopefully it works out. I hope the players decide to speed it up a bit though...

Personally I liked watching the match play. When they did it last time it was 1-64, 2-63 etc.

You are right about the top players getting knocked out. That is what happened the last year they had it Wykagal CC. All the top Americans and top players were knocked out early. They were more people on Friday then for the Final match on Sunday. Also didn't help that it was the Sunday of the British Open.

The money is similar to the original money that they had for the first match play. Winner though was $500,000, but $300,000 is not to bad.

No stroke play. 32 matches on Thr, 16 matches on Fri, Round of 8 Sat Morn, Quatr's Sat Aft, Semi's Sun Morn, Final and Conslt Sun Aft.

If they follow form.

Also the one thing that some may not like is that on the weekends with so few matches, it is not a sit and have the action come to you. However I find the format most enjoyable.

I haven't figured out how we do the contest.

1) Same as we do now, pick a person from a pairing for each day and we add up the final score.

2) Similar to an NCAA bracket pool.
