The reason why there is a limitted field and no cut when they play in the Far East is because of the travel and the expenses the golfers encounter when the go to those places. Most of the players are coming from the US or Europe and if they miss the cut, then they don't make anything. They have to make atleast two or three thousands dollars to cover their expenses because most of them are not rich like Tiger Woods!

At this point any new events are good. Once the economic recovery takes off, then the LPGA can refine their events, we just need to stay patient.

With this new event, that brings the official schedule to 26 tournaments, only one less than last year, and who knows, there may still be a few more added for this year.

I'm not a fan of limited field events, but they're better than not having any at all. In a perfect world, all events would be full- field, and there would be no gaps in the schedule. Since we're dealing with less than perfect conditions, I look at this as a positive step.

There is a place for limited field events MP, Yes in a perfect world there would be an 80-20 ratio of full field to limited field, but that's not the case right now. There should always be some limited field events to reward the top players for playing well and to give incentive for the rank and file to improve their games so that they can qualify as well.

In a perfect world there should be 30+ regular full field domestic events events. Then you can have 5 Limited event overseas. Plus US Open and BO, which you may not qualify for as an lpga player. Then 3 limited domestic events such as a match play event, something along the lines of the old Samsung for event winners and some sort of year end tournament ala the old ADT (with that crazy format). That will give you 40 events. Start in Feb after the Super Bowl and end the year in early Nov. That would give you few gaps. You can start with a few overseas events(like they do now) and have a few at the end of the season. Last edited by xman5; 03-02-2010 at 06:26 PM. |

They would probably take the same chance if the three Asian back-to-back events in the fall were full-field.
The other big reason they are limited field and the LPGA has been open about this, is that it's an easier sell to television to guarantee that all the top players they've invited will be on TV on the weekend. They're not going to take the chance of promoting their splashy new tournament starring Michelle Wie, Jiyai Shin or Ai Miyazato in their one appearance in the country and then risk having them miss the cut and not even be on the course when the weekend comes around.
