Mojo 6 voting

This made for TV "tournament" has gotten way too much attention already. Thought I'd give you an update on the voting for the 16th player. As if the sham of "16 top players" weren't enough -- notice not "top 16 players," just 16 players that are sort of kind, kind of, in the top of, you know something, they are holding online voting for the 16th player. This is in addition to the sponsor exemption which was already given out to Mariah Stackhouse, a high school kid from Georgia. There are some deserving candidates in the group vying for the 16th spot (Eun-Hee Ji, Laura Davies, Lindsey Wright ... but they're telling us that Beatriz Recari is in the lead. Because nothing says "top player" like a 5-year veteran LET player who has never played in an LPGA tournament but who not played a single LPGA event. But she's a knockout, so vote away! You have until Monday.

Speaking of the actual top players on the LPGA Tour, why is Miss Wie not included in the Mojo 6, not even as a vote-in? Could it be that she is planning to tee it up against the boys that week? It's the week of the Verizon Heritage. It be a perfect time for her to do her "I'm better than the girls" thing. The field at Verizon is typically weak, the week after the Masters. The course is short. She'll draw attention away from the other players at the Mojo (team Wie loves this stuff!). Or maybe she's planning to play on the European Tour. They're in China that week. I've heard she's very popular in China. Or, maybe the Mojo folks just didn't invite her. Nah.

Discuss.

Steve Wilmot is not a big fan of Wie.....I doubt he would invite her......and as of right now there is no sponsor to insist she play......

Why is that a bad thing?

He is, and has been, the tournament director for the MCI Heritage, then the Verizon Heritage and will continue as such when Verizon exits as sponsor after this year. Currently he is working on a new sponsor to tyake over.
He is also my neighbor on HHI.

It's more press being given to what is the silliest of silly season-type events. The promotion of the "top 16 players" is a lie, even if it has now been quietly changed to "16 elite players." It was originally supposed to be the top 16 in the Rolex Rankings. I wonder what went wrong with that plan. One of the players is a sponsor exemption. Another is voted by fans in a beauty pageant poll. Oh, and there's the contest to pick the order players will finish. Legalized gambling on the outcome! The format itself is a joke. Players call out another player against whom they go head-to-head over six holes. WTF? Is there also mud wrestling in bikinis at the turn? Oh wait. There is no turn. Only six holes.

And then it's not shown tape-delayed on TV by a few hours. It's tape delayed by two weeks. And then only shown for one hour each day.

I do not believe that any publicity for women's golf is good publicity. It doesn't show the best players, doesn't show them playing in any sort of legit tournament conditions, and, the selection process is a joke.

Everything doesn't have to be stodgy and super traditional, but this tournament is stupid.

Other than that, I have no problems with it.

Well, as long as you're happy, that's all that counts.

You always have the option to do what I do and watch something else. I have no interest in this event, at least not until you mentioned the mud wrestling at the turn part, so I'll simply change the channel.

It is also the start of the Spring Quarter. The most likely reason.
