Win ten thousand

ok, ok, it's a gimmick, but the Mojo tourn has a page where you can pick the 16th player and win some money.

The Mojo

Oddly, the bottom of the page shows the other 15 players, though the players page ( The Mojo 6 Tournament | Players ) shows open slots. I guess they want to string out the announcements.

From what I read in order of the Rolex ranking they were allowed to pick their opponent. How stupid using the rankings to decide a tie break and not extra holes. Nice week's vacation for some.

The rankngs were used if there was a tie in overall points, not in the actual matches. Sudden death was used for the actual matches.

The whole concept was stupid.

This broadcast of the event is basically gonna be a Travelogue Infomercial for Jamaica. One hour broadcast each day for all those matches? hahaha Gimme a break!

Also, we'll be entertained with a lot of T&A stuff with red carpet appearances, etc.

Xtreme fluff event. Fun for some to watch, for whatever reason, but certainly nothing to do with serious golf. As someone said...nice vacation in Jamaica for the competitors.

I saw one funny thing from the news on the event. When players were being "picked" as opponents, McPherson said something like "I felt like the fat kid in dodgeball." And Cristie Kerr said..."Hey I used to be fat...I take offense to that!"

Whatever.... my guess is this event is a one shot deal. As I said....travel infomercial.

Thank you for your assistance.

I don't even care enough to see who won. Wait, let me guess... CBS decided the tournament was too boring, what with all the golf getting in the way of the fashion show, so they called it off after the first round on Day 2 and let fans call in and vote on a winner based on who had the most sparkly outfit. Beatriz Recari won again.

They were supposed to use the Rolex Rankings to pick the pairings, at least for the first match. That's why Suzann Pettersen got to pick first and that's why she picked the weakest opponent, Mariah Stackhouse.

After that things kind of fell apart.

Round 2 matches were supposed to be 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 based on finish at the end of Day 1. However, the organizers were too stupid to foresee that everyone's scores would be bunched up with this format and there would be a three-way tie for 1st and a two-way tie for 8th.

As much as this tour needs official standard eligibility events, this certainly didn't help. However, i'm not one to knock using a different format besides strokeplay. This format was far from perfect, but at the same time it was nice to see someone, anyone thinking outside the box. I would love if the LPGA had a broader range of formats for it's events, official and unofficial. Lets see some more events contested at matchplay, some with stableford scoring, maybe even a few official team events. After all, who says that every event has to be a standard 54 or 72 hole stroke play event? How about a few 90 hole events if that's the case. At least it would be something different. And possibly more appealing to fans and sponsors.

I don't know if the organizers were to stupid or not Blue. This format had never been tried before, so how would you know or they know what would happen?

I can't wait to see the TV ratings on this piece of stupidity......that is, if enough people watch so it can be rated.
Golf is a game made to be played over 18 holes, either stroke play, or rmatch play. Anything else is NOT golf.
Stroke play tournaments should be played over four days.....unless you're over 50 years of age. Match play tournaments should be limited to one per year.

Maybe the promoter of the Jamaica disaster can devise a new event for the girls.....played on Captain Billy's Putt Putt course. Hey, the guy probably pocketed a good years' salary for his ingenuity.

Yesterday, at the Verizon, a friend of mine and myself asked forty different people (we quit at forty) if they knew about the LPGA Mojo thingy being played.....only one of them had even heard of it.

Anna Nordqvist liked it......she won $350,000.............

And so it goes............
