| Juli Inkster disqualified for use of weighted training aid I can't believe this...she just used it to warm up and the penalty is an automatic DQ? Not a stroke penalty or something. Is this such an egregious foul? An "anonymous emailer"...? Geez...

...I know the rules people will say that ignorance of the rule is no excuse...but why a DQ? Make it a stroke penalty... ...what a story it would have been if Juli would have won this...

I feel terrible for Juli and I despise the fact that golf allows any old bozo watching on TV to email in with a report of a potential rules violation. However, she broke the rule, like it or not. She, of all people (38 years on tour), should have known better than to pull out a weighted club during the middle of a round. Moving on, I think the entire sport of golf needs a re-evaluation. There is way too much of this gotcha type of rules application. Sure, there have to be rules. But the rules should exist to keep the playing field level, not to trip up honest players who make dumb mistakes. At the highest levels -- PGA and LPGA -- it should not be difficult to assign a rules official to each group (or at least each of say the last 20 groups on the weekend) and have them issue warnings as they see them. So last week, a PGA Tour official could have warned Dustin Johnson before he started swinging that he was in a bunker. Today, a rules official could have stopped Juli from swinging the weighted club as soon as she pulled it from her bag. And for God's sake, don't let Joe Schmoe sitting on his couch in Peoria email in to the TV network with reports of rules violations. |

Sorry Blue I have to call stupid rule. By the way, they want to call this a training aid yet they will allow players to tape their fingers? Not saying.....just saying. |

Yeah. Swinging a weighted club in the middle of a round is a training aid. Taping your fingers isn't. The rule is not hard to understand. You can't have a Medicus driver or an alignment stick or a weighted club or any gadget. She should have known better and the LPGA should do a better job of officiating so she didn't have to get DQ'd for it.
