Gee, thanks for picking me Meg.

Multiple times this morning on Morning Drive we hear this.
"Caroline Hedwall defeats Michelle Wie 1 up to secure the Solheim Cup"
If you believe that Wie should not have been a Captian's pick, the above statement as read by Holly Sonders is music to your ears.

I can top that one.

In this morning's Pittsburgh Post Gazette the only picture from the cup is one of Princess Wie's missed putt on 18.

Probably it appears in many other cities as well since this paper often gets it's material from other sources.

Lewis sucked. Not doubt about that. Wie sucked less.

They both sucked. The US lost, in large part because their "leaders" and veterans played poorly.

A little reality:

Half of the Euro players scored more points than Michelle Wie:
Ciganda
Hedwall
Masson
Nordqvist
Pettersen
Recari

Only two Euros scored fewer points that Michelle Wie:
Catriona Matthew
Guilia Sergas

Five of the six Euro rookies scored at least as many points as Michelle Wie
(Sergas only exception)

Captain's picks are always co traversal. I stated that before about Beth Daniel going with O'Toole over Ward, Gulbis and others who had more Solheim experience (and a ton more cup points) then O'Toole had pro events. It was pointed out to me that O'Toole played well thus justifying the pick. I am not sure I agree but in the case of Wie. She outplayed Lewis, Creamer & Kerr. She isn't why the US lost. She is why we didn't lose sooner.

I am not sure who you put in instead of Wie but I don't think they can carry the rest of the team.

In singles, Creamer, Kerr and Lewis combined for 1 full point. You need 3 points there to contend.

No point in comparing points between the teams, if your team loses it's a no brainer that your team members scored less points! It remains a fact that TEN other team members scored less points than she did.

Whatever.

.
If you use allocated points for team play and say that anyone who didn't earn at least 1 point was an under-performer then the under-performers are:

Europe...Giulia Sergas (0-1-1) = 0.5

USA...Paula Creamer (1-3-0) = 0.5
Brittany Lincicome (1-1-1) = 0.75
Gerina Piller (0-2-1) = 0.5
Morgan Pressel (1-3-0) = 0.5
Lizette Salas (0-1-2) = 0.75
Angela Stanford (0-4-0) = 0.0

Not that it matters, but using math correctly, it's not 10, it's 6.
