MP,

You had a great example of draw versus fade in the last pairing on Sunday.

Lindsey, 5' 6", plays a draw and Anna, 6', plays a fade. Even though Anna is 6" taller than Lindsey, they are almost equal in driving distance season to date. Lindsey is 249.6 (83) and Anna is 248.3 (T92).

Behind the scenes of Anna's photoshoot for the magazine Swedish Golf...something tells me she will be on the cover of that magazine for many years to come...

March 2011-Anna Nordqvist on GC

Interesting...she responds to the question about not playing in the next event (Founders Cup) by saying she couldn't fit it in her schedule and more practice time...more practice time...with all the breaks and off weeks in the season? A. Truthful B. Artfully dodging the Founders Cup issue C. Both

It was nearest to B.

Although the dodge wasn't particularly artful...

2009 Wegmans LPGA Champion?

Someone should call Jiyai Shin and tell her that The Golf Channel just took her title away.

Haha! Good one! I have to be careful with that when I'm blogging since sponsorships shift around. Jiyai won 2009 Wegmans while Anna won 2009 McDonalds LPGA Chamiponship, which is now the Wegmans LPGA Championship. Maybe they're not yet accustomed to interviewing so many LPGA players. They need to brush up on tournament histories. But...I will say this, it does seem TGC is making a better effort at promoting LPGA players, if not the actual tournaments! Lol!

No. This is a big mistake. Sponsor contracts are very carefully written so there is no misconstruing what years they cover. They are not changed retroactively to give the new sponsor a bigger ROI.

Jiyai Shin won the 2009 Wegmans LPGA

Anna Nordqvist won the 2009 McDonald's LPGA Championship or if you want to drop the sponsor name, the 2009 LPGA Championship. Under no circumstance did she win the 2009 Wegmans LPGA.

This is just another example of The Golf Channel's ignorance of the LPGA. I've been watching Morning Drive a lot and I applaud them for getting LPGA players on but every time they do they make mistakes.

Today they had Mike Whan on as well on Annika in her usual Thursday slot. Maybe Bangkok Bobby can post the video. Annika was gracious, informed and a great ambassador the LPGA as she always is.

You're welcome...I would have posted the vids anyway...but the fact that she uttered the word "tennis"...which as you know is my magic word...made the videos a must-post!

Interesting perspectives by CG and Blue...I don't follow NASCAR...I didn't know they handled sports sponsorship like that...maybe it's sport specific...for example...maybe I'm just not paying attention, but when a tournament changes sponsors in golf, don't they usually just drop the old sponsor name when citing a past champion?

For example, I've never heard Se Ri Pak referred to as the 2001 Ricoh Women's British Open Champion...but most commonly the 2001 Women's British Open Champion (omitting the new sponsor) or the 2001 Weetabix Women's British Open Champion...btw, that was its first year as an LPGA Major...

In tennis, it's a little different...a lot of tournaments incorporated the sponsor into the tournament name in a more complete way...

...for example, I just wrote a blog piece a few days ago about Jelena Dokic winning her first event in almost 9 years...that event in 2002 was the DFS Classic, now known as the AEGON Classic...so it is still common to refer to her win as the 2002 DFS Classic, not the 2002 AEGON Classic...actually, that event has had many names over the years...Dow Classic...Dow Chemicals Classic...Edgbaston Cup...

...yet NASCAR has a completely different take on it and corrects commentators...but then maybe auto racing has a relationship with sponsors unlike any other sport...of course, all sports rely on sponsors...but in racing, every inch of the car is a billboard...every inch of the racing outfits are billboards...

I think what can be confusing in this example, which is why I would just drop Wegmans or McDonald's and just call past champions LPGA Championship winners...is that unlike in my tennis example, the new sponsor of the LPGA Championship had a well-known event of its own in previous years...so it can be confusing to use the Wegman name when referring to LPGA Championship winners prior to 2011...

You don't have to look to NASCAR, just look at the PGA this week...

They are saying that Tiger has won the Cadillac Championship 6 times, but this is the first year for Cadillac. In the past it was the CA Championship and American Express.

It is made more confusing in that it is played at Doral which hosted the Ford Championship in past years, which Tiger also won the same year as he won the CA Chamopinship.

Bottom line...anybody who is a past champion of the McDonalds LPGA Championship Presented by CocaCola is now a past champion of the Wegman's LPGA Championship.
