What the hell consitutes "domestic?" In the Northern Hemisphere?
Blue and Lojo,

Lexi has a tough road ahead, you guys are correct, only domestic events count.

Thumbs up

Thanks to Blue and Lojo I need to correct the beginning post in this topic.

Lexi does not have 4 exemptions remaining this season to win enough money, (equal to or better than 80th on the LPGA tour money list), to earn her LPGA tour card without going to q-school, assuming she is granted an age exemption, she only has 2.

The remaining 2 exemptions are:

LPGA P&G Northwest 9/10-9/12
LPGA Navistar 10/7-10/10

The P&G has a purse of $2,000,000, the remaining exemption, the Navistar only has a purse of $1,300,000.

My question is, do you think the kid will earn her LPGA tour card in these 2 events?

Maybe this will help you decide. In 2009, 80th place on the money list was Irene Cho with $118,302. There is less prize money available this year than last, so let's guess that 80th place will be somewhere around $100,000 this year.

2 events, $100,000, an average of $50,000 per event.

I believe the Canadian Open counts. We had this discussion back in the day when Michelle Wie was an amateur and someone contacted the LPGA and was told that any event in North America counted as "domestic." Why they use the term "domestic" is beyond me.

She'd have to play awfully well to reach the $$ criteria in just the two events you mentioned. I don't see it happening....but at the same time, she'll have some events under her belt and maybe she'll feel more comfortable.

The whole thing revolves around Whan giving her the exemption to join the tour at her young age. I don't know what he'll do.....I hope he doesn't cave in, but there'll be a lot of pressure and hype to do so. Plus, if she plays really well (as she did in the USWO) in these Euro events (Evian, WBO) it would be hard for him not to give her the age exemption regardless of $$ earned. If she stinks the place up, then he's got some breathing room.

I dunno....I'm not in favor of Whan giving the exemption at THIS age no matter what $$ she earns. Strange as it sounds...there's a big diff between a 15/16 yr old and a 17/18 yr old.

I sent the LPGA tour an email today asking if it counts or not, hopefully they will answer tomorrow.

I doubt that she'll qualify based on earnings. I also hope that Whan doesn't give her the age exemption.

If they don't answer, try Beth Ann Baldry at GolfWeek.

Will Stacy Lewis earn her card through sponsor's exemptions?

Here's the scoop from Kathy Lawrence of the LPGA tour. What this means is that Lexi has 3 events in which to earn about $100,000 or an average of $33,333 per event.
------------------

Evian Masters is considered unofficial money toward the top 80

Lexi has 4 LPGA tour co-sponsored events remaining on her schedule. Which events count earnings towards a LPGA tour card?

1. Evian Masters 7/22-7/25- Unofficial
2. Women's Canadian Open 8/26-8/29
3. P&G Northwest 9/10-9/12
4. Navistar 10/7-10/10

Smile

I don't want to be overly confident, so I will say that I am ordinarily confident, that the kid will earn her card on the remaining 3 exemptions that count.

I say this because Lexi said she is going to work on her putting and if she does, she will get that card, if she doesn't , she won't.

So realistically she has to finish in the top five to be in with a chance, then hopefully Whan will still deny her a card.

I agree about the putting, from the looks of it she needs to work a bit more on it and less on bombing drives down the fairway. Putt for dough etc.
