I don't know either Cristie or Lexi personally, but I have known lots of 15-year-olds and lots of 32-year-olds. I have never known a 15-year-old, even the most mature, who is capable of handling the responsibilities of a professional career, who can fully make informed decisions about a career, knowing all the consequences, handling the pressures of a career -- in the case of an LPGA golfer that would be the demands from sponsors, the pressures of traveling, the pressure to win. I've also never met a 15-year-old who does not benefit from associating with peers. The other players at LPGA tournaments are not her peers. Lexi is very mature and self-assured for a 15-year-old, but she's still a 15-year-old.
You don't look hard enough. I'll give you two examples. Judy Foster and Brooke Shields. They both started their professional careers as movie actresses as children, mostly playing prostitutes. Their parents were probably being criticized then, but look but they accomplished. Judy Foster graduated from Yale and Brooke Shields graduated from Princeton. And today, they're still successful in their careers. When these young people turn professionals, they don't handle their own affairs. They're guided by their parents, lawyers, accountants, etc.

But, seriously, what kind of education is she getting from her parents, or more accurately, her computer, when her real goal is to be a professional golfer, as good and as quickly as possible? She's not going to college. She may not even finish high school except to complete the minimum requirements of Florida homeschool laws.
Again, you don't look hard enough. My parents' friends are missionaries in the Far East and all their children are home schooled. One of them is graduating this August 13th at the University of Denver with a degree of Master of Laws in Taxation, magna cum-laude. Not bad for being home schooled.

Sometimes, life is a game of chance. Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail. And unless you try...you're a failure! You don't judge an Indian unless you walk in his moccasins.

There's home schooling and then there's home schooling!

If her parents are taking into account the possible future demise of the LPGA, then wouldn't it be sensible to persuade her do what Wie did and complete her high school years. Ultimately it's all about greed is still good and sports parents able to live in the manner to which they'd like to become accustomed.

Let the hype begin...

No doubt that Lexi had a great four days at the USWO. She certainly has the game to compete at this level.

Around the 18th hole, Johnny Miller made a statement such as ... and I paraphrase.... "She could dominate the women's tour." Er...yeah... have we heard this before? STOP!! Miller is such a mouth almighty.

I could be wrong, but I swear I heard him make some comments about Ochoa and "Sorensen".... it was late in the coverage and unfortunately I don't have TiVo or a DVR right now, so I can't run it back.

I was thinking too....one of the commercial sponsors was Lexus. Hello? Seems like a perfect fit to me..... Lexi.... Lexus...having that big "L" logo on her bag?

Yes, he did. I'm not sure, but I guess he mentioned Ochoa and Sorenstam retiring that led to Cristie Kerr being No. 1. I heard him mentioned their names while Cristie Kerr was walking on the green.

I don't remember how often but the states do test them.
I don't want to turn this thread into a "Home schooling" debate...but....

notaxbill....I don't know about "all" states, I only know about the State of Florida.

Home schooled students in Florida are not tested "by the state." The test requirements may be administered in several ways, including using state tests which are mandated in public schools, but they are in no way tested BY the state or even by their local school district.

Their tests are administered and scores submitted via several options...NONE of which include being tested "by the state."

I believe it was mentioned today that Lexi has not had any day-to-day classroom social interaction with her school aged peers since she started being home schooled. As I recall, that was in the 5th grade.

Anyhow....as I said...I don't want to hijack this thread to turn it to home schooing arguments. It's just one reason I don't think it was a great idea for Lexi to turn professional at age 15.

As Buzzer said....it's not our business. But, we can have an opinion.

To the danger man

Because the open is over and Lexi is through for at least a week.
I thought I would get your opinion on this.

The Riddle

Barack Obama met with the Queen of England.
He asked her, "Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government?
Are there any tips you can give to me?"
"Well," said the Queen, "the most important thing is to surround yourself with
intelligent people."
Obama frowned, and then asked, "But how do I know the people around me
are really intelligent?"
The Queen took a sip of tea. "Oh, that's easy; you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle."
The Queen pushed a button on her intercom. "Please send Tony Blair in here, would you?"
Tony Blair walked into the room and said, "Yes, my Queen?"
The Queen smiled and said, "Answer me this please, Tony, your mother and father have a child.
It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?"
Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair answered, "That would be me."
"Yes! Very good," said the Queen.
Obama went back home to ask Joe Biden, his vice presidential choice the
same question. "Joe, answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child.
It's not your brother and it's not your sister. Who is it?"
"I'm not sure," said Biden. "Let me get back to you on that one.." He went to his advisors
and asked every one, but none could give him an answer. Finally, he ended up in the men's room and
recognized Colin Powell's shoes in the next stall.Biden asked Powell, "Colin, can you answer this for me?
Your mother andfather have a child and it's not your brother or your sister. Who is it?"
Colin Powell yelled back, "That's easy, it's me!"
Biden smiled, and said, "Thanks!" Then, he went back to speak with Obama.
"Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. It is Colin Powell!"
Obama got up, stomped over to Biden, and angrily yelled into his face, "No! You idiot! It's Tony Blair!"
AND THAT MY FRIENDS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR GOVERNMENT.

Paula Creamer did not go to a real high school either. She went to the IMG sports academy, which had an affiliated HS, but come on, how much time was spent in HS and how much playing golf.

You might be surprised. Most of the kids who go to the IMG do not end up in sports careers. They think they will, but they don't. Paula Creamer is the exception, not the rule.

Here is the list of college acceptances for Pendleton Students for the Class of 2010. They are obviously not all sports scholarships. Some of these schools don't even have sports scholarships!

College Acceptances

It shows to me a school with a very rigorous curriculum and a student body dedicated to academics as well as athletics.
