State Farm Contest

Hi xman5 -- if you're out there --

Do you think your new super Turbo Contest Picker 2000 (tm) will be done in time for the State Farm or should we do the contest the old old fashioned way?

Just let us know ... and thank you again for undertaking this project.

Do the contest the old fashioned way.
It is actually way too much work to create a web site for the contest at this time.

What I have done is create a program that will allow a person to manage the weekly contest without spreadsheets. I am almost finished. I should have it tmr night. It will make your life much easier.

In the program I have preloaded it with all of the the remaining tournaments. I have also loaded it with the contestants from the last contest. I have also preloaded it with all of the LPGA players from the current money list. About 180 players I think.

Within the program you can add new contestants and new LPGA players. As I said all upcomming tournaments have been created already.
Within the program you setup the groupings for each round of a tournament. When a contestant submits their selections to you you will have a data entry screen that will prefill with the groupings of that round and you will select that contestants choices.

When the round is over you will have a dataentry screen that will allow you to enter the scores for the LPGA players. This sceen will prefill with the groupings and you will drop in the scores. The system will then use those scores to calculate the results of the round and the contest so far.

There will also be a screen with result details.

Everyone can also use it on their own to track there selections.

Here are some screen shoots.

Phase 2 for next year will add a web interface where the contestant will go to a web site and post their weekly selections.

From within the Tournament Managment Program you would down load the entries from the website into the program automatically. This will eliminate the need for data entry.

From within the Tournament Management Program you would upload the groupings to the web site.

To all out there you can also use the program to rack your own results in the tournament. I should have it uploaded somewhere late tmr were you can download it. It should run in XP and Vista with out a problem and with out doing any type of install. It is just 2 files that can be installed in a folder anywhere on your computer.

Win 2000 I am not to sure about. You would at least need to install .net framework 1.1 and possible the latest Jet 4.0 service pack. I think that if you were on Win 2000 service pack 4 you are OK. I don't bother to test win 2000 compatability anymore. Win 98 is definately out. I don't see why it would not run in a Mac under the VMware virtual machine, but I am not going to test it.

All of the source code will be available to anyone who wants it. In fact I encourage you to make modifications to it and upgrades if you want. I license it to you all under the GNU GPL. So basically do what you want with it, just don't sell it.

I had started it as a full web application, but that seemed to be too big of a project to do now.

Here is a shot at one of the pages I was working on.
