Laura Diaz Caddying at the PGA Championship

I'd just like to say how much I admire Laura Diaz for caddying for her Club Pro brother (Ron Philo) while he played in the PGA Championship this week. He made the cut, played the entire four days, & she carried his bag the whole way. The weather was brutal, near or over a hundred degrees each day with lots of humidity.....and she's four months pregnant!!! I remember all too well how I felt at four months pregnant &, believe me, carrying a 40lb golf bag & walking 18 holes of golf for at least four straight days could NOT have been in the picture.
Way to go Laura!!!

It is a great story and she said she'd like to do it again next year. When asked if she wouldn't be too busy with a new baby to mind, she said, "I've got a really good husband." Things like that put a smile on my face. Oh yes, besides the heat, Laura was stung by a bee--but even that bit of unpleasantness didn't dampen her enthusiasm.

Michelle Wie is home

On Sunday Aug. 21 KGMB sportscaster Liz Chun covered Michelle's return home from her summer tour.

In the interview Michelle said she needs to start studdying for the SAT she'll be taking this school year, she doesn't know when she'll see her friends, and people who have comments on her are entitled to their opinions.

She was on the news again today (8/22), and is still giving the same non-commital answer about turning pro, not even giving any odds.

She said she was very nervous on Letterman & GMA, and she didn't want to fall flat on her face on national TV. I thought Kate Hudson was more nervous than Michelle, Kate was fidgeting so much it was annoying.

If you attend a tournament Michelle is playing, don't be intimidated and just stare, just go and meet her.

Hi ya kaialii....well if Michelle was nervous on the Letterman show, she sure didn't show it.....she acted cool like a cucumber....now about going up to her....hmmmm....it is not as easy as you think....I followed Wiesy golf for a few years already...the two Sony's, the Pearl Open, the SBS....heck!!, I don't want to BREAK her concentration....I did talk to her parents though....just chit chat "passing" stuff....I keep on running into them as the "mass of humanity" moves with her round....my first glimpse of her was at the first Sony Pro-Am....it was storming and the whole Diamond Head side of the island had a power outage....she played 9 holes in that condition....fantastic golf....she shot about a one or two over par....right then and there, I told myself....this little girl can shoot PAR golf at Waialae, ANY TIME she wants to....no matter what the conditions they throw at her....you have to imagine, that at that time, she DIDN'T have that low screamer shot, that she now has in her arsenal....amazing stuff....I haven't missed a round of golf that she has played on Oahu and I don't think I will be missing any future ones....the kid is like a MAGNET....she makes golf EXCITING to watch

Personally, I think BJ and Bo should be thinking about hiring her some personal bodyguards.....MW is no longer just " a golfer"....she is already somewhat of a "superstar" type status and there might be some "Tonya Harding" types out there....anyway, if she was "my" daughter....I would do this....if finances are a problem, it shouldn't be....any loan institution would easily grant the Wies, any loan amount they wish....the Loan institutions would be CRAZY not to....anyway....just my opinion

by the way, thanks for the thought about the Waikaloa event....I completely forgot about that event....I think she will go again....I do however think that she will not go to the 2006 Pearl Open....even though the Wies and David Ishii are great friends....I think the Punahou Carnival will win this time....she is a junior and the Junior class is responsible for the whole event....just my opinion

anyway, kaialii.....great to have you in this forum....so have you met MW personally....Great kid with a lot of class and integrity from my point of view...anyway....you have a great week....see ya!!

Hi wiefan:

No, i haven't met MW yet, I guess I grad from the U before Dr. Wie started working there.

I forgot to mention that Robert K. asked MW about playing in the Masters and if it included winning?

Her reply... of course.

If there is any female out there that can win the Masters, it's MW. I think she does and at a younger age and fewer attempts than TW. Picture this, MW and TW walking up 18 at the Masters on Sunday, and the tournament is yet to be decided.

MW's team should take a look at what Stewart Appleby is doing with his swinig. In the NEC/GWC he hit 3 drive 400+ one of witch measured 427.
Hopefully MW can get her average driving distance +300 yards for 06.

Hi ya Kaialii....so you went to TIM school huh....my daughter and son-inlaw graduated during BJ's stay there....anyway....I don't really see MW winning at the Masters....that is an awfully BIG STRETCH....the male pros are awfully good...all the way up and down the ladder.....I just hope she makes a cut at the SONY and maybe climb up that ladder

as far as Appleby....I remember him as the one saying that MW will shoot a couple of "80's" at the first Sony and she should be "satisfied" with that accomplishment....there was no comment from him afterwards

now about MW's game of driving distance....I don't think this is her MAJOR concern....it is her putting that is probably "driving" her crazy....her medium range putts are excellent....it is those short cute ones and those long "lags" that get her into trouble....actually she needs more swing speed and club head speed from the rough because she does not possess the physical strength of the men in that department....ahh heck!!....she will do OK....she has a super short game and imagination and her composure is unflappable.....her mental golf game is her greatest strength...AMEN!!.....anyway...so far she is a super role model for younger kids....this is a super great sign for me....have a great day....see ya!!
