It was clear that Angel understood the questions asked of him by Jim Nance (in English) during the Butler Cabin interview. The translator only once translated a complicated question. The other questions, he answered (in Spanish) immediately.
I agree that he probably felt much more comfortable, given how excited he was with the win and so on, to have someone translate his answers.
