The Awards presentations themselves were no mystery as Hee Kyung Seo separated herself from the field in 2009, even with competition from ace players So Yeon Ryu, Sun Ju Ahn and Bo Mi Lee. Here is a video of Hee Kyung Seo receiving an award at the show...do you think they gave her enough flowers?! ...and a few pics... Hee Kyung Seo ![]() ![]() ![]() Ji Yai Shin (surprise, surprise!!) was best Korean player on the US LPGA...from the card, I guess she gets a 42" LCD TV with her prize! (So Yeon Ryu to the right) ![]() They actually have a "Most Popular" award, which this year went to KLPGA #2 player So Yeon Ryu...last year it went to Hee Kyung Seo, who was #2 behind Ji Yai Shin, who swept the awards in 2008... Just my own opinion, and I understand that a lot of American and European men follow the LPGA and KLPGA just to drool over sexy Asian females, but I find this whole awards show as beauty contest thing kind of silly and even a bit degrading. I'm sure someone will counter with the argument that the girls love it and it's all for fun. Of course. That's not the point. |

I agree that it's kind of silly, but what's degrading about it? It looks to me like they're just dancing. There doesn't appear to be any sexual innuendo, or anything even remotely degrading that I can see.

It's degrading because the players are being exhibited for their beauty, just like a beauty pageant, more than for their performance on the golf course. I don't object that much to the dance number, IF it's done in fun and IF it's voluntary. I don't have enough information to judge. As for the ceremony, it's fine to have a ceremony, even to get dressed up in nice clothes. But there is a line where the players are being exhibited more for their looks and sex appeal around the world than rewarded for the professional achievements on the golf course. I think this line has been crossed. Again, I don't expect most people here to understand. And that's fine. But it's also for this reason that you'll never see a ceremony like this in the U.S. The players would think it was a joke. Last edited by Blue; 12-14-2009 at 07:44 AM. |
