Curtis Cup

I thought the team of Thompson and Korda would run all over the team of Barwood and Cylburn but not so. It's anyone's match right now.

Alexis is responsible for her and Jessica not losing and also for not winning.

In addition, Alexis and Jessica combined for a 4 putt earlier in the match.
--------------------------------------------------
It exorcised the demons from a disastrous 14th-green four-putt that handed GB&I the hole and squared the match for good.

“Oh my God, that was pathetic,” said Thompson. “That was not very good. We just had to forget about that.”

Wow. USA won all six matches on Saturday to go up 8.5 to 3.5 going into singles on Sunday.

I was going to go this weekend but it was supposed to rain today (and did where I was). Wish I'd been there now.

Shame about the outcome.Even during the fourballs it looked like it was going to be a close thing, but then the Americans went up a gear and destroyed us.

It was a comprehensive beating.

I thought the standard of play was excellent; especially considering the young age of the teams and the quality of the course.

I wasn't too impressed with the tv coverage :they showed today's fourballs, but not the foursomes. If they are going to show the event, why half-arse it ?

Tomorrow is just a formality.I can only hope that the GB&I team put up a bit of a fight.

Damn,we even came a poor second in the fashion stakes,too...

Unfortunate weekend for English fans. Losing the Curtis Cup and settling for a tie against the US in the World Cup. Better luck next time.

Interesting, Jennifer Song lost in her singles match. Somewhat surprising, though Thompson thrashed Watson. Shame it wasn't closer after the first day, though I feel GB&I have probably done better than in the singles than people expected. I see both the McGuire twin won their matches.

St J, I gather from what they said The Golf Channel didn't send the afternoon matches through to the UK..

That goal the keeper gave the USA could prove costly. I'm not particularly interested but the thought of the drama it'll be if England lose any games or don't get through the group will be a nightmare to put up with.

They split the singles,so it wasn't a total capitulation.

The Maguire twins are going to be frighteningly good when they mature physically.I imagine that eight years from now we'll look back in awe at the talent that was on this Curtis Cup team ;there could easily be three or four from each team who go on to great things.

Perhaps they wanted to spare our blushes.

Rob Green (the keeper) did a tremendous Edward Scissorhands impersonation. The Algerian goalie,in a wonderful display of goalkeeping solidarity, did something remarkably similar in this afternoon's game.

I've always hated the national side,so the draw with the Yanks didn't bother me.

England will progress because the other two teams in the group are, frankly, rubbish.

But,eventually, like always,it will end with wailing, gnashing of teeth and tears...

I disagree about the Maguire twins. At 15 they seem fairly mature physically which is not unusual for girls. Leona may be the best amateur playing right now in Europe, but that's a long way from being a dominating pro or matching the talent seen in players from the US or Asia.

The real talent on this year's Curtis Cup team wan't in anyone on the GB&I team but in the top four players on the US team: Thompson, Johnson, Song and Korda. If Thompson and and Korda don't burn out, this is the future of golf among western hemisphere players.

Speaking of burn out, or maybe it's flunk out, it appears that Kim Kim has flunked out of the University of Denver or at least failed to perform well enough academically to retain her eligibility for next year so she will not be returning there. Academics were always a problem for her. She was homeschooled and spent a post-grad year in a prep school to try to prepare herself for college but apparently it was not enough.

Hi ya Blue...I would add Stephanie Kono to that list in Red...and not just because she is from Hawaii....in Hawaii Junior Golf, Stephanie is the player that took over after Wiesy did her thing....Stephanie can play some GOOD golf...that is why she is on the UCLA Golf team....all of this is just my opinion since I like to throw support to the Hawaii Local Kids

have a good day in Boston....see ya!!...go Celtics go!!

It would be tough for this year's teams to be the best ever. How about 1994:

U.S. - Wendy Ward, Emilee Klein, Jill McGill
GB&I - Catriona Matthew, Mhairi McKay, Janice Moodie

Other than McGill, you had five future Solheim Cup players.

The deepest ever team was the U.S. team from 2004:

Erica Blasberg, Paula Creamer, Sarah Huarte, Liz Janangelo, Brittany Lang, Jane Park, Annie Thurman, Michelle Wie

Six out of eight became LPGA exempt players.
