Wednesday evening report.

Met up with Cougar early and took the short drive to the course. Wondered the grounds a bit more - but settled in by the putting green to watch the show. Some 60 or so pros were scheduled to play today's pro/am and most seemed to be in easy view. Had a long chat with Siew-Ai Lim who stood as second alternate and was a bit unhappy that she might not be included in this field. Seems this course suits her style. She's looking ahead to Sybase next week, and hopes to play there.

Scout returned to me and reported he found fresh brewed coffee in the club house, so we spent a few minutes there sipping and staring at the view of the James River. At 12:10 we were stationed at the lst tee for Lorena's group to tee off. We followed them through the first 9 holes. Now, Scout is a much more experienced Lorena watcher than I am, but I will state an observation: she did not appear sharp to me. Precision shots that we are used to seeing seemed to allude her. Just my opinion - we'll see what happens.

Had our first ever pulled pork sandwiches today - yum! Oh, mine was accompanied by a sample of the main sponsor's product. The day was getting late, so we left for another swim, now dinner out. Thursday will be an early start as both Dorothy and Lorena have early tee times. More later.

Thrusday Evening Report or How We Survived Round 1

We made it to the course by 7:30 today, then chatted over coffee at the putting green. We saw various players warming up - Annika working at a remote corner, Natalie not nattily attired (sans makeup), players with their ipods, etc. I shook Dorothy's hand and wished her luck. Just when the sprinkles started, Dot's group teed off, so a stalwart (but small group of fans) started the round with them. 3 of us were Dot fans, another 3 were Mhairi's fans, and 1 gentlemen was Seo-Jae Lee's fan. Mhairi's round was beautiful to watch - she was relaxed, all strokes seemed effortless. She avoided the tree, sand, and rough trouble that seemed to plague Dot. They finished the round in 4 1/2 hours, and came in to an appreciative crowd at 18. Mhairi was surrounded by cameras and michrophones, Dot had an interview with a reporter, then came over to us for hugs and encouragement. I told her she knows what to do, and is capable of doing it. Let's see if she can turn things around tomorrow.

Scout came in with the Lorena, Annika, Suzanne throng. He was very impressed with Annika's concistency today. In spite of a wet forecast, that threesome ought to bring even larger crowds tomorrow. Dealing with the crowds here is a little more difficult than it has been at other courses, as the holes here don't have much room to accommodate folks. Nevertheless, he remains undaunted, and will soldier on with brolly in hand.

Now for a question we've been pondering - Why are there so many pancake restaurants around here? I think we'll answer that by visiting one tomorrow. Then head to the course at 11 am or so. We've been given tickets to Busch Gardens, so that's on the agenda for the evening.

Friday Report -

Terrific day, in spite of the weather. Had a delicious blueberry pancake breakfast first off. Yum. Then, talked with Betsy King once we arrived at the course. She was promoting her charity Golf Fore Africa in the vendor village. We ducked the first weather delay by passing time in the clubhouse. Once the weather cleared, Cougar and Scout and I split up to follow our favorites. I'd walked 3 holes with Dot's group when the heavens opened up again. Players and Caddies were swept away in vans, while spectators were asked to seek cover - Ha! Good luck. I thumbed a ride from a woman driving a golf cart. Turned out she was the the Rules guru whom I had met at the Kraft. She brought me right back to the 19th Hole where I found Cougar and a few hundred of our closest friends. Anyhoo, After an hour or so, Scout and I walked 9,8, and at 7 waited for the leaders. What superb golf we saw! Annika hit 2 flagsticks. So fun to see. She looks great.

Our day ended when busses took players and their guests to Busch Gardens for dinner and amusements. So fun to see Lorie Kane, Reily Rankin, Meg, Carin, and many more.

We're back at it tomorrow for more. Since Dot couldn't turn her game around I'll post in the Tournament folder.

Hope that she enjoying what she is doing now. I wonder if she
is playing any recreational golf? Will look forward to your report
