Ha! Now you know that a lady never tells, but I'm old enough to have parented most of these players! Saw Dot today. She and Clint had no travel mishaps on their way here from Alabama. (Some players were delayed as they had to change from Montgomery to Birmingham for their getaway - due to weather? dunno). Dot was able to spend 2 days with her folks, and looks rested and eager to get back on that birdie train. She should have a good number of fans following her - based at least on the ticket requests that I got! I'm hoping to catch her on the front 9 on Thursday, at least for a few holes, then it's back up to the Driving Range for me. I'll post more as I can. |

Quick Round 1 report - Up and down round by Dot, but the wind and cold made conditions nasty. She and Clint made it to the range for a quick warmup, then rode down to tee off at Hole #1. Some of her family followed along including Mom, Dad, her brother, various other relatives and friends. I wasn't able to follow for long, but I plan to walk 9 holes (or so), and will post again tomorrow.

2nd Round Report - Duty called, so I didn't get to watch as much play today as I would have liked, but I was happy to catch Dot on a few holes at the point where she had reached 1 under. I tried to catch up to the Delasin party at the conclusion of her round, but various family members were already piling into vans and Mr. D was on the phone, so I didn't know that her score had improved to 2 under until I caught the news on the electronic scoreboard. Good news. We're short handed at the range on Saturday, but I will make my way down the hill to catch a bit more of her play this weekend. :) |

Thanks Ricearoni for the first and 2nd round reports..........Dot did do well in the 2nd round shooting a -3 69............she is now tied for 12th...........and is coming off her best 07 finish in 18th place at the Navistar............NOTES on some of the pairings for the 3rd round............Lorie Kane is somewhat of a surprise.....tied at -6 for the lead with Karrie.......her best finish this year was also at Navistar...........19th place...........Lorena is paired with Suzann Petersen..............two major winners this year..........Lorena is ranked #1 and Suzann #5 on the Rolex Rankings............The biggest gallery should go to best friends...........Natalie and Cristie Kerr..............a lot of young men might be watching that pairing.........The Pink Panther (Paula) had to use a 3-birdie-in-a-row stretch on 5 through 7............to clear the cut line and finish at +3...........she will hook up with Dina Ammaccapane in the 3rd round...............the other young gun in this event, Morgan Pressel............shot a 73 and made the cut by one shot at +5..........she is paired with Patricia Meunier-Lebouc of France............on Saturday.............here is the breakdown of those who are in the Samsung who played in the Longs Drugs this week............15 of them made the cut..........the only one to miss the cut was Ai Miyazato...........who finished at + 10 for the 2 rounds.............Mi Hyun Kim (Peanut)...........shot +3 75 in the 1st round and then withdrew............the question is.........can she still play in the Samsung............if she had a WD in her last event?.........The only ones in the Samsung.............who did not play in the Longs Drugs event were Angela Park, Bettina Heuart and Michelle Wie.........

Ok - We're just in from dinner with Cougar. Hmm...we had Mexican food - could be a sign of things to come on Sunday. I was only able to follow Dot for the last 9 holes. Actually, I joined them at the 9th green, spoke with Mr. D, then walked the rest of the way with the family - Mom, both sisters and Arsenio Jr. Divina (of brief Big Break fame) is no longer working at a Norcal golf resort, but is working on her own game. I'll try to get more details on that when I catch up to them again tomorrow. The 3 bogies on the back nine, mostly resulted from Dot flirting with danger in the left rough. On 10, her tee shot veered off course, hit a lady spectator in the stomach (not too hard), but still managed to land in bounds. In recovering from there, she earned the resulting bogey. On 11, the tee shot sailed into the left rough again, but she recovered and managed a par. She held steady until 16, where she came up short and her tee shot landed in the front bunker, bogey again. On 17, left off the tee again. All together a good round, but some scoring oportunities were missed. I'm looking forward to walking most of the same holes tomorrow, talking more with the family, and cheering for our favorite. :) |

I went to the Long's Drugs Challenge yesterday and this tournament is definitely a CHALLENGE not only for the players (tight fairways and small greens) but a challenge for the spectators as well! This is one hilly course. I thought I was hiking at Yosemite with the elevation changes and switchback trails! It was also hard to keep up with the players because as soon as they got off a green they would be whisked away on a cart leaving the fans to trudge up the cart path to the next hole and in many cases you could not follow them to the next tee so you had to go to the fairway or wait for them by the green. Paula had a quite a few fans following her but the HUGE throng of fans belonged to Natalie and Cristie. WOW!!! There must have been a few hundred following them and then there were several hundred waiting along the 18th fairway. After their round, there were a couple of hundred people waiting for autographs and Natalie just signed as many as she could all the while smiling and being very pleasant. She is definitely the face of the LPGA (as well as Lorena who had a huge group following her too) and she "gets it"-meaning that she understands what it means to be a fan and tries to be accomodating as much as she can while being friendly too. To me, it was just so amazing to see how popular she is-not just with young guys but everyone. There were kids, moms, older people. Everyone wanted her autograph. That was fun to watch! It was funny-some guy commented "Gee! she has nice teeth!" exhausted at the end! |
