Thanks to all veterans, and to two of my cousins who died during service to our country.

As the son of a career Army Officer and having spent 30 years as one myself, and having a son who is a veteran, as a whole our veterans are the best the country has to offer. May those now serving be safe and come back to us having served with honor and in one piece.

I salute all those veterans who served in World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Afganistan and Iraq wars such as Buzzer, MarinePaul, Wiefan to name a few:

My uncle died last week, six years before his 87th birthday which would have been yesterday, Veteran's Day. When we cleaned out his closet, we found just a few items of clothing. Among them was his World War II army sergeant's uniform. At his memorial service most people were surprised to hear that he had been at Okinawa just before the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He hardly ever talked about it.

My father-in-law who will be 90 in a few days was one of the thousand upon thousands of soldiers scheduled to invade Japan before the atomic bombs ended the war.
Would he have survived a ground war in Japan? He doesn't know of course, but he is thankful he didn't have to find out.
