| Panic is costly and stupid. ---------------- “We need tournaments,” said Lincicome, who won April’s Kraft Nabisco Championship. “Even if we’re playing for half the purses.” LPGA Tour Article - Golf Channel

I'm not sure why this was so stupid. Wouldn't you rather see 30 plus events on the schedule for a lower purse than 15 events for higher purses?

Not sure I agree with your logic DJ - 15 at full, 30 at 1/2 - wouldn't it work out to be about the same? This statement gives the tournament directors/sponsors leverage - "Oh, we can get this tournament for 1/2 the price now - or maybe even lower - just as long as we have it!" Not a really brilliant thing to say, IMO.

Cutting purses by half is asking too much, but reducing purses somewhat and adding others is a whole lot better than continuing to lose tournaments.

The problem with Lincicome's statement is you never want to reveal your entire hand in a bargaining situation. Even if the players are willing to play for half-size purses, they don't want to let the tournaments know that while they're still negotiating the contract.

But i's the players' tour and they can do what they want. Hopefully Lincicome does not speak for all of them, but I've not been impressed with the business sense of a lot of these players.
