| Senior Member | Met life clinics http://www.ad-hoc-news.de/CorporateN...r+of+LPGA+Golf About the LPGA Golf Clinics for Women from MetLife The LPGA Golf Clinics for Women from MetLife is a nationwide series of full-day golf events in 15 major markets. Taught by LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals, the Clinics are uniquely designed to help women improve their golf game and to use golf as a vehicle to broaden business opportunities and customer relationships. There is an 8:1 student to instructor ratio and all skill levels are welcome ' from those who have never picked up a club to women who have been playing golf for years. Please visit www.lpgagolfclinicsforwomen.com for additional information. My opinion This is a very important and big step in helping the LPGA growth. This is the sort of close up attention women need to get interested in the LPGA. This could I believe cause more and bigger tournaments to be formed. I only see an upside here.

Yes they are NTB, but like I said, these clinics have been around for years. I don't see how a new sponsor is going to draw people to the game or improve the tournaments. Maybe I'm missing something here, but from your first post it sounded like you thought this clinic thing was brand new - it's not!

Putter I may be wrong in my interpretation. It seem to imply this was going to be done on some grand scale. I know the girls have given clinics for years. I read this to mean a lot of money and time was going into it. At the least they now have a new sponsor and more recognition and maybe thats all there is to it.

Yes, they've been going on for years. I can't remember who the primary sponsor was last. Maybe Prudential? Basically a bunch of teaching and club pros ("girls" may be stretching it, but OK) come out and teach clinics for anyone who can ante up the $350 and either don't have a day job or can take a day off of work to play golf. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the best women golfers I've played with don't have 9 to 5 jobs. They're not all 80 year old great grandmothers. A lot are wealthier women (for whatever reason they have wealth) or younger retirees who have a lot of time to play and are very good. Better than me and my colleagues who are lucky to get a quick 9 in between our full-time jobs and taking care of kids. The connection with the LPGA Tour is not that strong. The clinics are not held in connection with tournaments. I don't know of any former touring pros (at least not any that I've heard of) that are teaching the clinics. It's about getting women interested in improving their games, not in watching golf. Most women I play golf with, do not follow the LPGA at all. They may play golf twice a week, but asked to name a player, they give the usual "Annika .. is it Natalie someone ... and Michelle Wie, the 14 year old who won all those tournaments against the men" answer. The clinics are still a good thing. Last edited by Blue; 01-30-2008 at 07:58 AM. |

UPDATE: In 2007 Fidelity and Price Waterhouse Coopers were the primary sponsors. Both those companies are still involved this year. The change this year is bringing in MetLife as a presenting sponsor. |
