I didn't read her comments as trying to "influence" the Boyz of Augusta National. It wasn't exactly a Martha Burke answer. Regarding the spell checker Bivens/Bovines thing...pretty funny. Maybe we should call her Ms. Moo. |

Please read the entire thread before you respond next time. Boola Boss started this thread, the title of which is "Michelle Ginn Tribute ordeal." I believe the Michelle in mention is Michelle Wie. He said he was looking for the entire interview. I gave him the parts that dealt with Michelle and the parts that dealt with Augusta. |

I agree with Lojo. But this "political correctness" crap is starting to get out of hand. Let me translate what Mrs Moo really said:" If Billy Payne were to invite the LPGA to hold a Ladies Master's at his Augusta principality, I would kiss his a** on the first tee just before Arnold Palmer and Marilynn Smith hit the opening drives".....and if she were to turn down such an extremely doubtful offer she'd get her own a** kicked so hard by her constituents that she wouldn't splash down until somewhere between Daytona and Bermuda. Ty Votaw was the one who caused hard feelings between the LPGA tour and Augusta National but I mostly agree with you, Ms. Moo was mellow if you compare her to Ty and Martha.

I don't know how to put this any more tactfully, but what is your problem? Last edited by Blue; 02-13-2008 at 06:47 PM. |

But...the LPGA has a policy of not playing at clubs where there is a specific policy prohibiting women membership. Not sure how they wormed around St. Andrews other than they were co-sanctioning w/ the LET, and it's simply the R&A Club that's male only...not the St. Andrews golf course itself. So, when some jerk reporter asked a loaded question regarding Augusta National, what is Ms. Moo or any LPGA commish to say? Until such club might change their membership policies, it would not be an available venue. Period. That's the only answer possible. Same thing happened, as I'm sure you recall...back in the early 90's when the PGA Tour established a policy that they would not hold PGA Tour events at clubs which had membership policies discriminatory to minorities and/or women. I believe Dean Beaman was commissioner then. There were a coupla clubs that refused to change their policies, and they were dropped from the PGA Tour venue roster....Butler National in Chicago comes to mind, which was home of the Western Open. The big showdown was with Shoal Creek in Alabama where the PGA was holding their PGA championship. They added a black member to hush up the controversy. Anyone who doesn't believe that was a "token" membership is crazy. In my opinion, that brought about Augusta National inviting a black member very soon thereafter, even though they didn't need to do so in order to comply w/ PGA policies. The Masters isn't run by the PGA Tour, so they have no say in dictating club policies. (Nice way to get outta that one, eh?) In any case....Augusta National will not have any women members until THEY decide to do so...if ever. |

Augusta National does have some honorary members (past champions are honorary), but Presidents are not. Though, some have been invited as guests now and then. Ike was the only President who was a member of the club, and that was before he was elected president anyhow. And, I think the only professional golfers who are full members are Jack and Arnie. It's not a social club...it's a golf club, so they wouldn't just have automatic honorary memberships to non golfers, even if they were President of the US....black, white, or female. |
