Carolyn Bivens

i am posting this thread to address the ongoing anger, attacks and bitterness that some people in this chat room have toward bivens. She is not a person or commissioner without flaws but time and again i have seen people savagely unload on her...based on fact or not. i say this: she is human and will make mistakes, she already has. she really needs help as far as public relations go. but as far as her core job of growing the tour goes i feel she has done a good job with what has been given to her. when she took over, she got a television contract that was signed by a very desperate votaw, had a schedule where up to half the events did not have contracts guareenteeing that they would be held, small media coverage and a host of other problems. i think a lot of people thought she was going to come in and everything would be just great. the reality of it is that things had to be changed. yes events were lost, but for the most part the events she replaced them with are stronger. i want to comment on the loss of the shoprite classic, it is the worst kept secret that the harrison who ran the event were almost immpossible to work with. people here blasted her for losing that event, an event that was greatly undervalued by the harrisons. notice that shoprite is now the presenting sponsor of the sybase classic now. just food for thought. anyway what im trying to say is just give her a chance. are we going to agree with everything she does? no and we shouldnt. but she knows things that we dont and when people unload on her based off of little or no fact, i have a problem with that. criticize her up and down if it is a proven fact but dont do it based on rumors. i love the lpga and i have confidence that they know what they are doing. we are just armchair quarterbacks with no inside knowledge into what is going on. i just think we should keep that in mind, myself included. thank you for listening to me ramble and god bless.

thank you wiefan but i want to state this: im am not a puppet for bivens. i disagree with what she has done on a few fronts but as i said earlier i respect her for the way she has done her job. she is going to make mistakes, she already has but i like where the tour is going under her leadership. there will be rocky ground ahead to be sure but i have faith in her as well as the lpga.

As far as the claim that she got a television contract signed by a very desperate Votaw, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the two agreements that ESPN and the Golf Channel signed with the LPGA guaranteed the LPGA a revenue stream in terms of rights fees (the Golf Channel) or a critical mass of televised events that could be sold overseas for substantial money while also being televised on the ESPN. The reality here is that there are fewer events televised today than in the last year of Votaw's commissionership.

Every event had a contract guaranteeing that they would be held. So in terms of "inside knowledge" you don't to know what you are talking about.

Don't claim to know the facts when you don't.

well i want to comment on the supposed love fest. first i am by no means an unabashed supporter of bivens in any sense. another thing, i never claimed to have inside information like you asserted fluffy. it has been documented by sources from the lpga that they do NOT earn domestic television revenue. that disputes your claim that the golf channel pays the tour. the only television revenue they get is from international quarters. and as far as the actual television contract is concerned, it was signed by what looked like a desperate ty votaw BEFORE bivens took over. you said it yourself that the tour is less covered television wise than before. i politely ask before you make a comment that you have all the facts, like you asked for me. and marine paul, there is no love fest between me and wiefan. i am not an unabashed supporter like he comes across in his posts. however, im tired of most people here throwing her under the bus based on rumor, heresay, or just a bad impression of her. if you dont have facts and evidece to support your claim dont bash her. its not loving her its just being honest and respectful of a fellow human being. i really like interacting on here but it seems like if someone disagrees with certain people on here, personal attacks or just plain old viciousness is fielded in response. lets all remember that we are all human beings and this is after all just a SPORT. its not life or death. thank you for your time and consideration. and God Bless!

P.S. i said she got a contract signed by votaw, the contract that was signed before she took over. and as far as every event having a contract to be held that isnt true either. the lpga has even documented that several-i dont know the actual number- DID NOT have contracts. you can go back to lpga archived news articles to find this information out. i remember reading these articles...thats why i put that out here. i just wanted to make you aware of this. thank you once again and God Bless!

Golfnut, we're all entitled to our opinions. If you think Bivems is doing a good job, fine. I'm also entitled to think she's done more harm than good.

People are still blaming Votaw thats crap.
I can't see what good Bivens has done not one thing.
I go to the LPGA web pages often I can't find any information over there from
Bivens. If anyone knows of a part of the web site that informs the LPGA
fans of any developments post it please.
I would like to stay as informed as I can.
