I agree with Xman. We don't know what she was feeling at that point in time. I would have liked to hear her interviewed, but she wasn't for whatever reason.
Not having a translator in place. That was a failure of the Tour. Whan is in charge of the Tour.

Speaking in English best. Speaking through a translator second best. Not speaking at all ... really bad.

I have talked to her and her English is okay, although not as good as some other Koreans. She probably was overwhelmed with the victory, and chose not to speak in English. The translator was not in Mobile, so he might not have been in NJ either. If he was, I am sure he would be available.

I found out all i needed or wanted to know about Yoo from her rock solid play and graceful demeanor. I don't think every single player has to share their life story or be a complete open book for the LPGA to be successful. Maybe, just maybe it's time people stopped complaining about the supposed lack of english language skills and focused on what matters most, their level of play.
Amen!

Only if you're a Nitpicking Bush!t! If she doesn't want to talk, that's her perogative! If you want to know more about her, read her biography!

There could be more to it than meets the eye.
Sophie Gustafson has won and never was interviewed because, as was explained on the air, she doesn't speak english.
Sophie speaks perfect english, but has a severe speech impediment....more than just a stutter. I never knew that until I was going to have lunch with Soph a few years ago. LoJo tipped me off so I knew what to expect.
Thanx again, LoJo....sheesh.............

The most common of ALL phobias is fear of speaking in front of people/crowds. It's always good to arm yourself with facts BEFORE throwing stones.

With the number of Koreans and the potential for having a Korean winner each week, I can't believe the LPGA doesn't have the translator travel to every tourney! I know money is tight at LPGA headquarters after the Bivens payoff, but leave someone else home!

The transcript of her interview on LPGA.com was pretty impressive, so maybe the translator was there... though usually, they do say it's through a translator.

Get this for irony!!....Yoo's sister -- who is with her in the US now -- teaches English in Korea!! haha

Anyhow, I do think just a few words whether in struggling English or via a translator would go a long way to help fans 'connect.' I remember when Se Ri first was on tour and her English then wasn't so good. She always tried and it was a big 'connect' with the fans to experience her joy at winning, even though what she said sometimes came out a bit garbled.

I think its ultimately going to kill the tour in the USA if half the field can't communicate with the fans and media. The players have no problem coming here and using the LPGA to get larger purses and exposure, they should also feel some obligation to help promote its future And growth.
At a time when fan and sponsor interest in the tour is lower than ever, everyone needs to be a spokesperson to promote the LPGA.

I thought everyone new that.

I remeber at the Samsung (?) when she won and there was the controversy if she touched her ball (when clearly she did not), her caddie had to give the interview to the media to explain what happened.

By the way if anyone remembers that broadcast it was one of the worst personal attacks on someone by a broadcast crew.
