Since you specifically addressed your post to me, I'll answer it one more time. Like I said before, it's a matter of opinion or preference. There is no wrong or right. If I was the clerk in that store and a customer buy things...he/she paid me and I gave him/her change, then he/she left without "thanking me", I'm not going to yell at him/her and say, "hey, you forgot to thank me!" Maybe he/she had a bad day or can't speak English or from another planet where saying "thank you" is not common! I'll just let it go and don't even think about it. And I won't even lose some sleep over it.

And oh...while we are at it, suppose you were the sales clerk in that store and after your little Korean customer paid for a pack of chewing gum, and you gave her her change and she didn't even say "thank you", to you, then you called your manager and told him about how rude your customer was. And then, for days, and maybe weeks, you keep complaining to your co-workers and even to some of your other customers about how rude your little Korean customer was for "not thanking" your for selling her a pack of chewing gum. See how bad it would have made you looked? That's exactly what you and some of your co-complainers are doing here. Making a big deal out of little and insignificant things. That was a perfect analogy. Thank you very much. (Before you accuse me of "not thanking you" for giving a very good analogy.)

It was a big let down when they "announced" that she wouldn't be giving an interview. I would NOT have cared if she came on and spoke the most fractured English or KorEnglish. Whatever. I think most fans were just wishing to hear her say something to keep that enthusiasm going.

As it was....the bad news that she declined an interview just kinda threw ice water on the whole ending of the event. Correct...."what" the winner says is all the same blah, blah blah. But it's nice to hear something and to keep the positive vibes going.

I would have loved it if she'd said, with the same enthusiasm she showed at the end...."I win. I happy." Hell, even I could learn something like that in Korean or Swahili or whatever language.

I think to many on here are saying it doesn't matter because whatever she said would have been the usual crap standard blah, blah, blah. But...it does matter.
That's exactly how I felt and that's what prompted me to start this thread. I was excited when Sun Young Yoo won, I wanted to see her smiling face and have her take a bow and say even two words to the fans.

Professional sports is all about entertaining the fans and it does not matter if the words are scripted and banal, for some reasons the post-win microphone in your face moment is a big part of that entertainment.

When she didn't show up and we got the runner-up instead, I felt let down. When we were told her no-show was because of a language barrier, it was obvious that something had to change with the LPGA. It didn't matter that she couldn't speak English. It mattered that her lack of English kept her hidden.

While I agree it would have been nice for her to say something, in any language, lets not forget the criticism Eun Hee Ji got for speaking Korean after the Open. Us fans might be satisfied with any kind of acceptance speech, but outsiders will still bring up the language issue if she spoke in Korean.

She would have gotten a lot more criticism if she had declined to appear on camera at all. It was not ideal but at least she showed up.

Some people are going to complain no matter what the player does.
