Who would in your opinion be a better negotiator for the LPGA? Keep in mind they probably have limited money with the global financial crisis, and losing sponsorship. Would another director do it better?

Whoever you put in there, Rusty, he/she would be criticized. Let me quote a portion of Ricky Nelson's song, The Garden Party:

"I went to a garden party
To reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories
And play our songs again
When I got to the garden party
They all knew my name
No one recognized me
I didn't look the same

But it's all right now
I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can't please everyone
So ya got to please yourself
"

Hummm.... they did not like the last director... he was not doing enough new things, and this one seems to, and thats not right either. Its a hard job director... I sure would not want it.

Would any of you fans want it... if so, what would you do first? Or as Rusty has asked.... who do you want in there? I like Nancy. :-)

The choice of Nancy Lopez wouldn't be a bad one. She's knows golf, knows the LPGA, and can't possibly do a wrose job that Bivens has done.

How many sponsors is Bivens going to alienate before she realizes that her way of negotiating isn't working? Or does she even care? Blue listed tournaments that are either dead or on life support. Many have been long- time sponsors. How anyone can think that Bivens is the right person for the job is beyond me.

"This one" is actually doing everything ass- backwards. Look at the number of long- term sponsors she's alienated. Then, add the media credentialling fiasco, her "English only" policy, and the "Tweeter" ignorance. She's done everything possible to make the LPGA look like a second- rate organization. She'd doing a hell of a job with that, at least.

Reread the post earlier from Zimhaus that explains in detail what she is doing to local tournaments. She is trying to squeeze the life out of them in a bad economy.

In the telecast someone made a comment (Judy Rankin?) about the origins of the LPGA and that these tournaments that hae been around 30+ years have been the backbone of the LPGA. It has been in these smaller communities like Upstate NY and Ohio etc that the LPGA has thrived. Bivens seems to be anti these small markets, which are the ones that have kept the LPGA going all these years. The post by Zimhaus really explains how she is destroying the LPGA. Reality is that the LPGA can only get so big. It is not the Yankees or the Cowboys. They need to maintain there roots which is being lost. A tree without roots will die. I thought It would be inconcievable that the LPGA could go under, but this leadership is putting it on the fast track.

I have changed sides. She must go before it is too late. The players must throw out there board of directors and get a new board and ceo. it seems that most of them seem to have there heads burried in the sand.

My opinion, they need to be taken over by the PGA tour. Then all 4 tours, PGA, Nationwide, Champions, LPGA can be coordinated together.

I have attended the Rochester Wegman's Tournament for the last 10 years. This year not only was the weather horrible but so was some of the changes that had taken place. Food stands were not acceptable. You could not buy a coffee until 9:30 A.M.. The first tee offs were shortly after 7:00 A.M. each day. Rumors were in abundance reporting the LPGA had pushed out the former concessions. The Rotary Club used to run a few concessions, serving breakfast etc each year. Some of the money went to the LPGA and some to Camps sponsored by the Rotary Club. The rumor is: the LPGA demanded a much larger cut of the profits and basically the Rotary Club declined and were pushed out or paid off to leave the event.

Lori Kane was very vocal this week in regard to losing this tournament. Nancy Lopez played in the Pro Am's. She was in the stands Thursday. From what was being said...the players like this tournament. I don't know much about the ins and outs but I do know the mood and morale of most was very low. For me, it would be a shame to not have this tournament.

I kind of disagreed when Nancy Lopez as commish was first suggested, but she does know her golf, she's in business, she's congenial, the players seem to like her, and as MP said she couldn't do any worse.

This would probably be a good thing for Nancy - run the LPGA instead of staging another comeback!

Very good post, Xman.

In Ohio, we used to have three LPGA tournaments. Now, there's the Farr, and God only knows whether it will survive the Bivens era. The Giant Eagle, which died under Votaw, and the Wendy's are gone.

These small markets are what have kept the LPGA viable. They simply can't afford Bivens' "give me more" attitude.

Wiefan, for one, has said that since the players aren't revolting against her, she must be doing a great job. Add Lori Kane and Nancy Lopez to the list of unhappy players.

I've always said Nancy myself with the help of some insightful business people. She's played the game and knows what's best for the game. She is a player who people have looked up to and love and with a little tact and decorum may have saved some of these stops. Who can say no to Nancy Lopez?
She's the face they need to lead the LPGA IMHO.
