Yes she'll use the economic crisis to explain the loss of these tournaments but she won't use it to lower the price for some of these American stops. Makes sense doesn't it?

Cool

I was in Clearwater Beach, Florida since last Tuesday. Friday morning the Hilton was good enough to drop a copy of the NY Times and USA Today at my door. I read all about the PGA, European PGA, Nationwaide Tour and Champions tours in the papers.....not ONE word about the LPGA first round.
Saturday morning I bought the Tampa and St. Petersburg papers....to no avail.....not ONE word about the LPGA.
Pretty soon the "my" in myLPGA will stand for "mymorial"....that's the Hawaiian spelling.....

Rumors were in abundance reporting the LPGA had pushed out the former concessions. The Rotary Club used to run a few concessions, serving breakfast etc each year. Some of the money went to the LPGA and some to Camps sponsored by the Rotary Club. The rumor is: the LPGA demanded a much larger cut of the profits and basically the Rotary Club declined and were pushed out or paid off to leave the event.

Lori Kane was very vocal this week in regard to losing this tournament. Nancy Lopez played in the Pro Am's. She was in the stands Thursday. From what was being said...the players like this tournament. I don't know much about the ins and outs but I do know the mood and morale of most was very low. For me, it would be a shame to not have this tournament.
Thanks for the local insight, zimhaus. This is very disturbing.

I hope it's not too late to save negotiations w/ Wegman's, but the reports are not making it look too good for the LPGA. Nancy Lopez must be tearing her hair out.

Not surprising. Most of Carolyn Bivens' contact with the media is complaining that she was quoted out of context.

I know my friend Wiefan will understand this term "freeroll". It's a poker term that means you can't lose. Bivens is on a freeroll. She makes outrageous demands on these sponsors and they cave in and pay and she's a genius. They balk and fold the tent and it's the economy. A no lose situation for her but it is for LPGA members. Look at all the wonderful tour stops they are losing.

How many tournaments do they have to lose before the players say, "Enough already!"
Pay off Bivens and replace her with someone who knows the LPGA firsthand and who
everyone dearly loves-Nancy Lopez!

Instead of ranting and complaining...why don't you guys think of something that'll help the LPGA. You are just making things worse by criticizing. Let me paraphrase what the late President John F. Kennedy said in his first Inaugural in January of 1962:

"Ask not what the LPGA can do for you; ask what you can do for the LPGA." That's all folks! Be thankful...with all business going down the tubes...we can still enjoy the LPGA on TV occasionally on weekends.

With all due respect DB, what exactly can WE do for the LPGA? I can't send them a bucket of money, but I've been a supporter for ages. I watch on TV, I attend tournaments, I volunteer. What else exactly would you like me to do?

As for your paraphrased quote, which is silly in this instance, I've never asked the LPGA to do anything for me, as far as I'm concerned they put out a good product, but when one person is hell-bent on alienating the LPGA to sponsors and tournament organizers, yeah, I'm gonna be miffed.
