great interview for bittany...she's eloquent and refreshing. i'm so happy for her that she's finally getting some recognition.

she did clarify her reasons for saying why michelle should beat annika first before playing with the boys...that it's for "selfish reasons," that she wants michelle to help promote the LPGA more...

when asked where she got her tremendous distance, she replied playing with the boys....hmmm, so her most valuable asset, currently, was gained from pushing the envelope of her game with the boys, as opposed to staying with the status quo with the girls...this is what michelle's been saying - that playing with the guys is making her better.

brittany's all class...when asked the "three of you" young guns leading the LPGA, referring to creamer, pressel and herself, she corrected him saying "actually the four of us"....

That sounds good, but of course, it is not literally true. Brittany is 5' 10" tall and has meat on her bones and is personally aggressive. She would have hit the ball a long ways even without the male influence.

but would she have "tried" to smoke the ball? or just get it out in the fairway, since she, as you say "is 5' 10" and has meat on her bones," would have been longer than the average woman player anyway?

She also said in the piece that she played from the tips with her brothers, at over 7000 yards...she was forced to smoke it to compete...

Aggressive people try to "smoke" the golf ball, it is just in their nature to do so.

If Brittany had played with sisters, she would not have been happy outdriving them by 10 yards, she would have wanted 20, then 30, then 40, in a never ending quest to hit a golf ball off the planet.

There's a difference between playing with the boys in the neighborhood or your brothers because you are already smoking the girls in the neighborhood or in your family by a mile and playing with the boys in the pros when you haven't vanquished the girls in the pros yet.

Neither Brittany or the unspoken one have vanquished the professional girls yet. Not even close. To play with the men in the pros is just a marketing ploy, even if the unspoken one makes the much sought after cut this week.

Yes and I am predicting that Brittany will also yield to the temptation of publicity and appearance fees and compete in a men's event.

The Japanese like to throw money around as they got Sophie a few years ago, and they could get Brittany also if they tried.

i don't think so...brittany seems too loyal to the LPGA. as long as there's resentment and negative views regarding playing with the guys, she won't fall outta rank.

But, i think she should! it sould do wonders for her fame and wallet. just ask michelle. it might even make her a better player, assuming she doesn't embarras herself like some (read Davies and...)...

Britts playing with the boys

Not only did Britt play golf with the boys, she played softball/baseball with them too. As I understand it about the time she was transitioning to golf (she was always big and strong for her age), she played on a team as the only girl and was the best hitter.

Regarding her family, you may have seen him caddying on TV, her father may be about 5'10, but he is stocky and powerfully built. Her one brother could take on Hulk Hogan at about 6'2"" and 250 I'd say. Her mother is no peanut either; I'd say she is about 5'10" with an average build; she never played golf so her mother had no influence there.. Lastly, I am (was) about 5'10" and I think Britt is definitely taller than I am. I was always made to understand that Britt was about 6 feet tall. If you looked at TV and the LPGA web site, you can see how much taller she is than ANY of the other women. I don't know how the LPGA came up with her being 5'10, but they may be correct.

More about playing with the boys. I read that Angie, her mother, said that they moved to Seminole in 2001 so Britt could play high school golf there (although she was home schooled) There was was more to it. They were forced to move somewhere as they were burned out of their condo at Bardmore CC at around Christmas time and it had quite an affect on Brittany.

When they located in Seminole the high school was very large but had no girls golf team. So for 3 years she played on the BOYS TEAM as #1 teeing from the mens tees. I think she was the #1 player among all the boys in the region.

The last three years of high school eligibility she played in the girls state tourney, two of them as an individual and finallly as a team member when the school started a golf team in her senior year. Her junior and senior years she won the Florida State event among large schools.
Morgan Pressel won three times, but it was among the smallest school category. I don't recall Paula Creamer playing in any of the state school tourneys.
