Making a run to keep #1

Ai is now -7 and T2 through 16. If she finishes T2 even if Cristie wins, she keeps her number 1 ranking. I think.

Nice comeback after shooting 76 in Round 1.

Ai was my pick to win it all. Glad she made a charge at the end. At the moment I am enjoying the changing of the guard, shows the players are evenly matched and as of yet no one is dominating. I wonder how that will play with the casual LPGA fan (or maybe they take no notice?).

I don't think the casual LPGA fan would really care ;it's only us 'obsessives' who like to dissect the rankings.

I follow the PGA Tour, but I couldn't tell you who was fourth in the world rankings, nor who was second in the Fedex points lists.

If one is only a casual observer,I just don't think it's that important...

Turns out Ai had to finish solo 2nd not T2. I was wrong about that.

Good question about how the constant change at the top is playing out for the casual fan. A lot probably depends on how the media spins it. If they play up the first US number 1 angle and emphasize the international rivalry between the US, Korea, Japan and ... possibly Norway and Taiwan, it could draw fans to the LPGA because everyone loves an international rivalry.

FEDEX is certainly paying the PGA to mention the FEDEX Cup points at every opportunity. Rolex is running an ad we all saw with the coverage for the Rolex rankings. At least these companies see this ranking as a way to sell their wares.

Changing the topic a bit, did you see the ad for the Golf Superintendents of Association of America that started with the voice over, "There is no place Lorena Ochoa would rather be than on a golf course?"

They may want to update that one.

Maybe it is still true? She is just taking one for the family and not playing. I have a feeling she makes some comeback after having a child with this guy.

That would be very sad if it were true. She'd rather be on the golf course than anywhere else, but she's giving it all up, including her Hall of Fame-bound career, her number 1 ranking, etc. to stay home barefoot and pregnant. If she really is just taking time off to have a baby, don't you think she'd wait until at least she was pregnant? Laura Diaz and Minea Blomqvist just both had babies. I didn't even know either of them were pregnant. They hardly took any time off.

I hope Annika and Lorena make a come back. You would all see just how really
good Julie Inkster is. She raised her kids and still managed to win a us open
late in her playing years.

I could be wrong but she already has a built in family from this guy, and I think that she is taking care of them, plus planning on having there own together. I donk think that she will ever be back full time.
