Here's my thought on Michelle and Stanford. She will hire a tutor so she can get Stanford credits by exam.

As for getting her PGA card, I don't think she needs a miracle, just steady play, and a break through (making the cut) for the first time. You don't have to win to earn a tour card, just being consistently near the top of the leaderbord is good enough. I don't know what the lowest position you need to be accross all of your exemptions to finish in the top 135 of the money list.

For Wie to accept an LPGA card, the LPGA will have to waive its non-compete clause.

Hi ya golf fan.....welcome to this site....good to hear opinions from new posters....enjoy your stay in this discussion site.....by the way....I like your screenname....that says it all...Golf Fan....simple but effective

Hi ya Blue...terriffic post....I agree with what you are saying....makes sense to me

one side note.....PGA, LPGA, combination of both....actually what makes it interesting is MW's comment about wanting to make a difference in her sport....which in itself makes things more confusing about which path she is going to take....this kid has been blazing new trails since the day she started....I don't see her stopping and changing her path....should she ever join the LPGA and become successful, I am positive that she will then venture into the "unthinkable"....the PGA....that is unless of course, her schedule doesn't dictate that this is feasible.....just my opinion...see ya.....have a great day everyone....and again, welcome to this site golf Fan.....see ya!!

Wiefan, Michelle has stated that she wants to show women that there are no barriers not that she wants to make a difference in her sport.

If Michelle can be ranked #1 with Rolex that will give her instant "credibility" and the excuse that she needs better competition. She has said that she has no plans to win 50 or so tournaments on the LPGA tour.

It seems to me that the Wies are going to "follow the money" and that may mean that Michelle may never even get into double digits for wins on the LPGA if that pursuit hinders her earnings potential.

Even as I write there are those(or at least Boola) who feel that even though Michelle has yet to post a single victory on the LPGA tour, she is the best player.

If Michelle can command hundreds of thousands of dollars before she even hits her first shot, why bother to play regularly on a tour where a top 5 gets her considerably less?
OK, Cleo, since you mentioned me in your post, AND gave an accurate description of how I feel about Michelle, I will give you my take on what I feel she and her team will do. First, Wiefan and me are n

ot in "the loop" of people that KNOW anything official about her schedule OR when or IF she will ever commit to becoming a regular card-carrying member of the LPGA!

So all we can do is give our educated opinions of how we think this thing will shake out.

I think everyone knows that her team consists of her mom and dad, Nike, Sony, Omega, the William Morris Agency and her manager Ross Berlin! That is quite a team and they all will have some say in her career decisions.

OK, finally, here is what I think will happen: .... right now and all through this season, I don't think anything will happen, UNLESS she wins a tournament....THEN, many things would fall into place, AND then Carolyn would finally HAVE to let the whole golfing world know what the LPGA will do!....she will finally be forced to tell us how her organization will handle this new development.......I won't even speculate as to what her decision would be......BUT the ball will be in her court, and SHE will have to make the next play.....with her track record at this point.....your guess would be as good as mine.

IF she does not win (I don't think that will happen), then everything will be put on hold......Michelle will complete all her LPGA events, AND the PGA's John Deere Classic (where she WILL make the cut!), and the 84 Lumber event and the Reno-Tahoe tournament.......and THEN the Samsung and possible extra LPGA season-ending events that she qualifies for......after that will be the time for the Wie Team to make some tough decisions!

My bottom line is: ....one way or the other.....Michelle WILL be carrying an LPGA exempt-status card when she tees off in the SBS Open in Hawaii in February! That's the way I see it, anyhow.

2011

1. I think there is a good chance she will attend Stanford. (See Quote)
2. Unlike Woods, NCAA rules will have no impact on her.
3. In addition to school, her growing number of sponsors will limit the time available to compete.
Conclusion: 2011 may be the first year Wie will be able to fulfill LPGA participation requirements.

Michelle Wie is planning to apply for the Stanford University to major in the study related to economics. This is in preparation for her 40’s and beyond when she can no longer play golf professionally.

Boola, I'm simply taking a logical view of things based on what I know(or think I know). Obviously there are factors in play here that I'm not aware of but the original post mentioned an enormous fee($ 700, 000) for Michelle based on what she's done to this point.

Once her credibility is increased the appearance fee will go up. It could get so high that Michelle would lose money if she'd turn down or couldn't accept them because of certain rules.

Like I said, from my limited insight and knowledge of the facts(that's for jcd) in this case I say the Wies are going to go to the highest bidder.

That new Rolex ranking may yet bite the LPGA in the caboose.

I hope people can see that I am not "a troll" nor an enemy of Michelle (her father, though? eh...). I really am interested in her career, which is why her father's antics and some of the ensuing mania by the fans and media bother me so much.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "credits by exam" but Stanford doesn't just let students gain credits by taking tests. As I mentioned, their online program is aimed at continuing ed students (adults who already have college degrees and want to get additional education or other non-traditional students). It's probably not the best school for an 18-year old to pursue an online BA or BS at this point, though they are growing their online programs.

However, I do think Stanford has a vested interested in working with the Wie family to get Michelle enrolled somehow -- part-time, online, one semester a year. It's great PR for the school and as an alum she presents a valuable potential donor. Schools may say they don't consider that in admissions, but they do.

Hi ya cleo.....let's just say for discussion sake that her appearance fees goes up...this will only put her in the exact position that Tiger faces....she wil pick and choose stuff depending on her schedule....with Tiger, it is not all about the money...I would assume that with MW's wealth, it will be the same....if it fits and it is comfortable, than wear it....otherwise look through some more options....just my opinion

Blue....you have hit on a great point about "I do think Stanford has a vested interested in working with the Wie family to get Michelle enrolled somehow -- part-time, online, one semester a year. I do believe that this is something to consider....Stanford has an Honor Roll of high profile people....I think they will try to accomodate MW' s situation somehow....nothing for Stanford to lose, but potentually a lot to gain

anyway.....have a good day everyone....see ya....I gotta do my yard work....even Michelle couldn't hit her ball out of the HIGH rough at my house....she would definately have to take an "unplayable" and then Bamberger might be watching with his binoculars.....just kidding....see ya!!
