Hey, This is my first post and I'm happy to congratulate Ms.Kim...or is it Ms. Mi Hyun...regardless, she's great. I went to my first LPGA tournament last week at the HSBC and I followed her and Laura Davies around. I had a great time, especially because the little hitter was 6up after nine holes. I said hello to her mom and she said , "hi". That was enough for me, especially after I tried to talk to her on the cart path on the back nine. I said, "I used to caddy here, I worked here for two years and she really has a handle on these greens." Her mother just chuckled and said, "yes, yes". I left it at that; it was perfect communication. Yup, I'm a converted Grace fan. GO KIMMY! |

Thank you sir, but your spelling makes me sound Asian or something... Now, if you like a side of sad with your cuteness... Defeated Natalie Gulbis in a three-hole, sudden-death playoff Scorecard: Hole 2, 162-yard par 3: birdie – 6-iron to 10 feet Hole 8, 132-yard par 3: birdie – 9-iron to two feet Hole 9, 375-yard par 4: birdie – 8-iron to 10 feet Hole 10, 369-yard par 4: birdie – 6-iron out of the right-side bunker to seven feet Hole 16, 400-yard par 4: birdie – 8-iron to four feet Hole 17, 513-yard par 5: birdie – middle wedge to seven feet DANA GROSS-RHODE: Two wins in one year. Fantastic. We are going to start. We have Mi Hyun Kim who just defeated Natalie Gulbis in a three-hole sudden death playoff. How was that? Do you want to explain how you feel? MI HYUN KIM: You know, what, I played Natalie yesterday and today. She have so many friends with her, so many friends. So still, I can hear like the whole name right now. Like 300, 400 people cheer for her, like ‘Go, Natalie, Go, Natalie,' and I feel a little bit sad, but sometimes, you know, a few people, when I walk over by the hole, between holes, some few people say, like, ‘Go, Mi Hyun Kim,' like that. I'm so happy with that. I got a won and I got a trophy, and so I feel very happy right now. Q. On the front nine, Natalie made five straight birdies and took I think a four-shot lead, something like that. She was hitting everything right on the flag. She is making a lot of putts. How did you keep it together and not get discouraged at that point? MI HYUN KIM: You know, I play with Natalie and Se Ri. Se Ri is a good friend of mine. So when Natalie four-shot lead, I'm happy with the play then. So I just trying to do my best, but, you know, trying to enjoy the play. So it don't matter, you know, whoever four-shot lead, three-shot lead. Don't matter. I just try to keep playing. Q. When she finally stopped making birdies, you started making them. MI HYUN KIM: Yes. Q. Can you talk about keeping pressure on her the whole time and keeping it coming, staying close, and do you think that affected her at all? MI HYUN KIM: You know what, I like this kind of course. A little bit tighter and then little bit fast green, but not this week, but still, I like greens like this or fairways like this. So you know, I thought I have a chance to win, even whoever got the lead, like 2-shot, 3-shot lead. So I just trying to do, you know, every hole, trying to do my best. Q. On the second playoff hole you got in trouble on the left rough. You had to chip up, or you blasted out and then you chipped up. You were out of the hole basically. If she hit the putt, she wins. What were your feelings right at that point? Were you nervous at all? MI HYUN KIM: Just a little bit, but, you know, when we play the playoff, you know, we both are too tired, you know. So if she make like the kind of putt, that is like, what, 12 feet, maybe, kind of putt, that means God gave it to her, the win, good chance to win. So I shot 6-under last day, Sunday, so I'm happy with that, even if she got win or I got win. So it don't matter if she made that putt. I just don't want to go back to playoff because I'm so tired. I'm seven years older than her. So I'm so tired. Q. You said that you were kind of sad when all the fans were cheering for Natalie. Were the fans pretty supportive after you won? Tell me about your reactions of how the fans treated you or your reaction of the fans' reaction toward you after you won the tournament. MI HYUN KIM: You know, I understand. I'm Korean. American fans are cheering for Natalie. I understand that, but I'm happy with the few American people say my name or my nickname. So I'm happy with that. It don't matter. I just feel a little bit sad, but I understand. Q. But afterwards, how did you feel? MI HYUN KIM: After that, after I won, they all left. Everybody left. Not many people be here. Q.This course has been pretty good to Korean golfers. MI HYUN KIM: Yes. Q. Does it make you happy to win on a course that Se Ri has won on four times? MI HYUN KIM: Yes. I think a lot of Korean play style is almost the same. So, you know, the Korean people who won, can get a chance to win because it was kind of like the same course. So I think a lot of Korean people like this course. So that's why we play good. Q. Aside from just the golf, you players had to get through a lot this week with the hot weather, specifically the rain and all the floodwater everywhere. Can you speak to that and your surviving the conditions and the problems this week? MI HYUN KIM: First day and second day, I have a good time, good tee time. So I play in the mornings, second round. So that's why I didn't come back next day. So I have a little bit of luck. Then a lot of rain here, but a lot of volunteer or staff work so good because we don't have any problem with the play because every volunteer can take care of me, taking care of every player. So we don't have any trouble with that, but I'm happy with the ride, you know, hole by hole. So not a problem with any weather. Q. On both of the playoff holes on number 18, was that virtually an identical drive and identical second shot? MI HYUN KIM: When? Q. On number 18. MI HYUN KIM: The first playoff 18? Q. Both of them. Were they the same shot? You were in the same place, weren't you? MI HYUN KIM: You know what, my tee shot kind of a draw a little bit, but that time, we need a little bit left to right. So I play a little bit confused, to aim. So every time I aim kind of at one tee, but wind take it a little right. So I'm at the right side of rough, but it isn't big trouble. Q. Did you hit the same club both times? MI HYUN KIM: Yes, 7-wood into the rough and then 8-iron from the fairway. Q. One last question. How many fans would you estimate were still in the stands during the trophy presentation? Tens? Hundreds? MI HYUN KIM: I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Q. Give me a rough estimate. MI HYUN KIM: Not many. I don't know. Q. Do you feel like you have as good a short game as anybody on the tour? MI HYUN KIM: I'm sorry? Q. Do you feel that you have as good of a short game as anybody on the Tour? MI HYUN KIM: A lot of players say things about like that, but not my parents. Q. No. No. When you have an 8-iron, a 9-iron, a wedge in your hand, do you feel you're as good a player as there is on the LPGA Tour? MI HYUN KIM: I think so. That's why I win maybe. Cleo, I wish I was there too. I almost made the drive from Jersey |
