| wind delay debate...cont.... Hi ya folks...I am kinda in between when it comes to this fairness issue....I am a believer that it is part of the game....luck of the draw in tee times will eventually itself out as fair in the long run....sometimes you have a good draw of no wind...sometimes you have a day of more wind.....you play your best in whatever draw you get notax is talking about the fairness issue here I think....xman and blue is talking about just playing whatever conditions it is providing of course a life threatening one here is my question...if everyone has to play the conditions "as is" so to speak....then why did I see on the PGA tour that the Shell open got postponed for the strong winds it had....the ruling was that it was unfair for the players because the wind was blowing the balls on the green that had a stimpmeter reading of +13....yesterday's telecast of the Nabisco showed the stintmeter to be in the 11-13 mark.....the PGA cancelled their tournament because of the unfairness to those playing in the wind because their balls were moving on the green.....well so did the Nabisco experience this at the 18th hole....read the interview on the Tournament site....the officials said they saw about 10 or so balls move and that they were "really" close to calling it like the PGA did at the Shell....this was for the fairness issue...as far as they calling it a day or not is not of importance to me as I believe that golfers should just play the course as given....I call it the luck of the draw but here is my question and I have seen this done before....Tournament people watering the greens inbetween groups coming to the green....I can see them wanting to save the environment but to water the greens to ensure fairness of one gropu versus another is not correct....I have heard that they water the greens to ensure that all players have equal chances on the same greens....but they disquise this propaganda by saying that they want to save the greens from drying up....personally I think this practice is incorrect...again....luck of the draw when you get to the green....water the green before or after the round....not inbetween...I know I am not the only one to ever see this anyway....like I said....hard to say if they should have called it or not about the rule of having to play the ball should the wind move it....not really a fair rule in my mind...here is what I would propose to the rules committee....on a Windy day that this is happening....have a player use a one putter head marker along side of their original mark...this way if the wind blows a ball into the hazard...the player will know exactly where to mark her ball to the original position having that player yesterday that marked her ball and then upon removing her marker having the wind blow her ball into the hazard for a penalty is not what I suspect the Golf Rules were intended to be anywayt...have a good day everyone....see ya wait a minute folks...I am going to post this post in the rule forum....see ya...have a good day |
