The Decision I cited IS correct. UNLESS this occurred on the first tee and Park STARTED THE ROUND with 15 clubs (her 14 + the one Ji left behind), then there is no penalty.

If it did occur on the first tee, then she would be penalized 2 strokes for each hole she carried the club, up to a maxiumum of four strokes. It would appear that the caddie picked up the "left behind" club as a courtesy, but that would not exempt Park from the penalty if she started the round with 15 clubs. If it occured on any other hole than the one she started on...no penalty.

This couldn't be a "local" KLPGA rule as it is contrary to the Rules of Golf.

Good find on the article, Wiefan...A+ student...but there were details left out of it which would better explain what happened.

Hi ya Lojo...ahhh shucks...all of these "BUTS"....sort of makes me want to smoke a cigarette BUTT....just kidding folks

anyway...Lojo according to the short piece that I sent about this incident...it sure sounds like the club was picked up on one of the greens that Ji just finished played...at least it sounds like it....however it could have been at the Practice Range...but if it was, I am sure that Park's Caddy could have found someone to return the club to Ji....just speculating here folks

anyway...."A+" huh....hmmmm...I guess I will have to work harder to get my Normal grade of "A++"

have a good day everyone....see ya!!....hmmmm.. I wonder why Park was DQ'd....anyone with insight to this incident know this answer?????....anyway...see ya.....

There is nothing in the article you posted that says WHEN or WHERE Park's caddie picked up Ji's left-behind club, so I wouldn't speculate on that.

That is the whole issue with not knowing the full details of the circumstances. As I cited from the Rules, if this occured on the first tee and Park started the round w/ 15 clubs, then she would have been penalized. We don't know that.

Also, you wonder why Park wasn't DQ'ed. The penalty for carrying 15 clubs isn't DQ...it's 2 strokes per hole for the extra club carried to a max of 2 holes....so, 4 strokes. The article didn't say she was DQ'd....it says she was penalized two strokes. I think the facts are a bit "off" in the reporting.

Surely, at some point in the tourney, Ji and her caddie would have realized they'd left a club behind somewhere. But...the article doesn't give the details.
