LOJO.. Is it against the rules to have spotters and fans help you find a shot
you made in the rough?
In the fall we play a leaf rule to speed up play.
The leaf rule,at some courses they blow the leaves off the fairways into the rough. The ball is impossible to find in the leaves. You place a ball as close as
everyone decides it should be and hit from there.
One more please. I have seen people drive by and pick up my ball and the ball
of a friend. We just play on without a penalty.
Thanks for your answer.

Ah... but if you were in a real golf event completion, you would have chased them with an iron right? :-)

Greentee.. I lost a A flight championship by a cheat. My second shot on a par five was in the middle of the fairway. The guy I was playing took off like a shot in his cart right after I hit. When I got over the hill my ball was nowhere to be found.HMMMM I lost by one shot.

13-4/13.5 Player Moves Loose Impediments When Approaching Ball in Hazard

Q. A player’s ball lies in a bunker that is covered with many loose twigs and leaves. In approaching the ball and taking his stance, the player touches and moves loose impediments with his feet. Does he incur a penalty?

A. There is no penalty provided the lie of the ball or area of intended stance or swing is not improved.
However, the large leaf was not "IN" the bunker until I took it in there on my shoe. I think it's pretty clear that if one went into a bunker and stepped on leaves or twigs that were already IN the bunker, it would not be a penalty unless doing so improved lie, stance, etc.

That was the one I was talking about. If it qualifies as a loose impediment then this should apply. However, I think that in this case it is just considered dirt or grass that has gotten stuck to you (whatever that would technically be called) and there is no penalty.

Ahh.... I take it you don't mark your ball? Or did he just steal it you think. If so, I would have used that iron. :-)

The ruling I got was go back where you were and drop take a penalty.
If you fight on a course you can be kicked off for as long as a year and get sued.
Ask the judge.

I'd have kicked his ass anyway. There are other courses to play.

The big leaf... brought into the bunker is bringing in a foreign matter, using it in stance improves it, penalty. Not using it as stance in the bunker, not improving stance and no penalty.

Outside of removing the leaf before entering the bunker, LoJo did the right thing by not using it to improve stance.... errr.... now I am getting confused. I stand by my first statement, Golf is Rocket Science.

WieFan your theory of a ball always in play from tee to hole.... I wonder is there is some loop-hole in it. As cleaning the ball, is it not out of play until returned to its coined spot? Feels like there is a hole or two in your logic somewheres. :-)
Hi ya greentee,,,,my logic is about a "continued cycle"...there might be stoppages of play such as OB, water Hazards, Marking the ball on the green....but once you have put your ball in play...the cycle continues until the ball is in the hole...so if mother nature interferes with your ball while your ball is "IN PLAY"...so be it, the rules apply...same same the wind blowing the ball off the tee at the last tournament

anyway...I am off to work...see ya folks...I am extra late...see ya!!

Question, Why is taking off your golf shoes and hitting the golf ball while standing barefoot in a water hazzard not a penalty? Isn't it improving your stance? (like the Craig Statler incident).....sorry this is not about a leaf.....hit it long and straight !!!!!
