Players accused of cheating

My thoughts were with the media coverage and all the fans watching that it would be impossible to cheat, or be accused of cheating during a round. and that if a shot or play was in doubt, a tournament official would be called to clear up the situation.

Michelle Wie was accused on the thegolfchannel forum of cheating by someone who writes a golf blog. Obviously this can't be substantiated.

Looks like the cheating helped. Wie's putting 'miraculously' improved.

Shame on the LPGA for not DQing Michelle Wie!!

And even more shame on all the LPGA golfers who knew about Michelle Wie cheating and cowardly did not raise a stink!!

Background:
From "Life on Tour" http://lifeontour.wordpress.com/blog/ ("Wegmans LPGA-Practice Day"- June
23, 2009):

"Rules are meant to be broken… and broken they are. As I mentioned
yesterday, Wiesy played an E-9 prior to the pro-am. Heard she was seen
coming down the eleventh hole with mom in the lead, dad about forty
yards behind followed by her and her looper du jour. Late that
evening, mom and dad were spotted rolling balls on the greens checking
the breaks. If I’m not mistaken, only the caddie and one coach are
allowed inside the ropes."
I found out that Michelle Wie was actually disqualified on her LPGA debut for a illegal dropped ball. I would of thought before she played the ball, it could be checked by an offical to confirm it was in play?

The Golf Blog: Michelle Wie: would've placed 4th, but DQ'd

Finally a complaint against Sarah Oh for her father calling her out of the bunker to play a different club, Maybe they should ban parent's from the tournaments.

Golf is a game of integrity, and as such, players are given the benefit of the doubt. There must be substantial proof of an infraction for a rules official to DQ a player, and it usually boils down to one person's word against another. As such, the player will win out almost every time. Take JJ's double hit in the Open a few years ago. She said that she only hit the ball once, although video seems to indicate otherwise. She was not penalized.

Rusty,

The problem is that this latest (alleged) incident did not happen during tournament play, but during the evening (or evenings) before the tournament, in the twilight of dusk.
At that time, there would be not much media coverage, and the few fans watching were probably fans of the player in question.

This "person who writes a golf blog" is actually a tour caddie.

Blue, the two references made here are not from Larry's blog, although he commented on them after the fact.

Is it possible for a LPGA players father or mother to be a caddy? Would they need qualifications or have to be a professional golfer?

I'm actually tempted to say if it were me I'd be picking someone off the street who knows nothing at all about golf and who can't argue with me, but, of course, I wouldn't do that. ;)

Sure. A few players use their parents as caddies. At one time or another this has included Michelle Wie, Julieta Granada, Vicky Hurst, Silvia Cavalieri, Stacy Lewis -- to name just a few. Other players have used siblings, spouses, boyfriends, or girlfriends. Whether or not they are qualified is open to debate.

DQ's aren't usually a re**** of cheating, but errors. Signing a wrong scorecard, or not signing the card. Wie was DQ'd for failing to sign her scorecard. In the "drop" incident, the DQ was because she signed her card that should have included a penalty for the erroneous drop, not the drop itself.

The rules infraction of having both her parents inside the ropes should come as no surprise, given the "team's" history.
