Oh NO! She's gonna get hammered for this one!

JJ double hit her ball coming out of the rough at 18. The video clearly, clearly, clearly shows this but she insists that she only hit once...no penalty.

the evidence is pretty clear - she may get crucified for this. i hope not! there's nothing worse in golf than an appearance of dishonesty.

It seems that either she may not have felt the 2nd hit or she didn't feel the 1st one but it does seem pretty darn clear from the video that it was a double hit.

I don' think for a second that she is trying to cheat and sometimes our eyes(cameras) can deceive us.

I sure hope this decision doesn't result in either a playoff or victory by her. If that happens this could be one of the all time controversies.

There was so much grass taken with that shot that JJ probably didn't "feel" the double hit, but whether she felt it or not, the replay should have convinced her that she did in fact double hit it.

I think maybe the female "I feel", or emotion if you will, got in the way of logic in JJ's case. If I had been the official, I would have told her, you might not "feel" like you double hit that shot, but the video evidence is clear, the ball was deflected to the right, One shot penalty.

i agree. she knows best whether there was a double hit, but the tv angle and view was pretty darn good.

the announcers mentioned a possibility of having some grass between the club and her ball on the second hit - insinuating that the second hit doesn't count. Can't really tell, but what if the club never came into contact with the ball on the FIRST hit? does that count? it has to, i would think... so wouldn't it have to count for the second hit as well? i could see, during play, if you never hit the ball on the first hit (only grass), then feel the ball on the second hit, it may possibly feel as one hit. it all happens so quick....

i like JJ and hope this doesn't get out of hand for her...

I'm not an expert about the rules, I pretty much play "winter rules".

don't we all? i think 99% of golfers would get disqualified about 99% of the time if we played the u.s. open...

Hi ya everyone....let me give my opinion....the TV really looks like she did hit it twice, the announcer's state that it looks like it, the rules official was heard talking to JJ about the different direction the ball went.....JJ heard everyone of these people say that it really looked like a double hit....but....I would imagine that the rule states that the player will be the judge of that double hit if a rules official doesn't "Officially" state that it is....if you look at the replay of her after she hit the shot.....JJ clearly "DOES NOT" look like someone that KNOWS she made a double hit....in other words....she did not feel the double hit NOR does she think she did....and for this I would imagine she is "playing by the rules as it was intended"

I see some similiarity in when MW got DQ...at the time she felt correct about her drop....just like JJ felt about her double hit incident....the only difference is that the rules official RULED that MW was indeed closer to the hole, thus the DQ....but in this case the rules official is not saying "IT WAS A DOUBLE HIT"...and as far as JJ goes....she did not think she did double hit the ball....so I think it is a GOOD RULING

Plus....I am confident that JJ knows that there are millions of people that are going to question her honesty....and for what...ONE SHOT....if JJ wasn't confident that she is being honest...she would have taken that triple boget instead of that double....what's the difference....it was a bad hole for her anyway....JJ knows that whatever she says will be judged....I honestly believe that JJ is being ABSOLUTELY HONEST.....I hope everyone else does also

anyway....just my opinion on this...see ya

I don't think it's so clear that it was a double hit. The ball clearly changed direction, but it may have hit a twig, or maybe the club hit a twig which hit the ball (is that a double hit??).

good point. there could have been a small rock that we couldn't see too.

i trust the official to say yea or nay as to the video evidence. they didn't. so there you have it.

as cleo said before, i think the best thing for JJ (perhaps she won't think so) is for her to be out of contention, so this incident gets buried in the annals of u.s. open history and does not become the deciding stroke....

The USGA and JJ have agreed to add a penalty stroke for the double hit, so all's good. i think this is the correct decision.

good luck JJ!!
