Contests: Joint 3rd place overall winner 2009.
| By the way, I don't have a dictionary definition of "phenom" but I think Michelle qualifies as one, whether she beat all the men in Hawaii or not. Even Wie detractors would probably agree to that. It is not necessary to exagerate things to prove that. |

Notax, I'm not paying attention to who posts what. Sorry. I'm just responding to what's posted. I honestly didn't think you were a Wie fanatic. I've always thought you've had very reasonable posts.

Here's an article I found about 12 year old Michelle vs 30 year old Del-Marc Fujita at the Manoa Cup: http://starbulletin.com/2002/06/05/sports/story1.html According to the article, she beat Sam Oishi 4 and 2 in round 1, I don't know who she beat to get into the 64 player field. And here's an article about the Manoa Cup: http://www.808golf.com/insidehawaiig..._sospecial.htm

OK, that's more like it. Now we have some facts. And they are impressive, but not unbelievable. At age 12 Michelle because the first female and the youngest player ever to win a match at the Hawaiian state amateur tournament. She was not 10 and she didn't beat all the men and she didn't even win the tournament. But it's still very impressive. And you know what? That's good enough. And she's still a phenon. You don't have to exagerate it into saying she was 10 and won the tournament and beat all the men on every island between California and Japan. You don't. Believe it or not, just stating the facts is much more impressive. The way it was first told just smacks of a overarching hype and then people don't know what to believe and end up doubting everything. I don't think you want that. |
