Saint, calling someone a disgrace is definitely insulting. It's on thing to dislike the antics, but quite another to call them a disgrace to the sport. I didn't think you were being an "arm- chair moderator," by the way. In my opinion, the comment was insulting, and completely uncalled for.

MP,thanks for the clarification.

The strange thing about Christina Kim is that she apparently understands golf etiquette - witness her telling the crowd to 'hush' when Tania Elosegui was preparing to play a shot,or her sporting applause of Catriona Matthews at the Ricoh Women's British Open - but some of her on-course antics are close to crossing the line,in my opinion.

Watching her on Saturday ,in the fourballs,it reached a point where her behaviour seemingly went from being spontaneous to being contrived.

I imagine if you were playing against her,it would be a cause of considerable annoyance...

Saint, she does get annoying to some, but she also did show some great sportsmanship throughout the Solheim. If you look at the antics of Boo Weekly, riding his driver like a horse, is that any less "colorful" than Christina's?

Some people have talked about how boring watching golf can be, then complain when someone adds something other than the norm.

I hated Boo Weekly's 'horse riding' at the Ryder Cup,too.

See,I'm consistent.

The people who complain about how boring golf can be are the kind of people who a) don't watch golf ; and b) could only be enticed to watch it if it becomes more redolent of a circus.

One shouldn't pander to those types.

A bit of fist-pumping,the occasional show of emotion,is perfectly fine, golfers need not be automatons, but Christina Kim takes it to an infuriating level.

Yes,she's young and she wants to have fun,but decorum has to play a part somewhere. When she went two-up on Tania Elosegui and she indicated this by waving two fingers at the crowd, that was remarkably crass.

I've often thought that if you got to spend one hour with Christina, you would have the time of your life, but if you spent two hours with her,you would throw yourself off the nearest tall building...

You may be right on the last sentence, but that first hour may well be worth it.

One more note on the "armchair moderating." We try to keep this site as free as possible from personal attacks against players. Calling Christina a disgrace was, to me, an attack against her, both personally and professionally. Whether you appreciate her actions or not, that's entirely up to you. Hally's remarks went beyond that.

Whether you agree with the call I made is, again, up to you. The fact, though, is that I made the call based on my judgement of what is or isn't a personal attack against a player. In that respect, your second guessing could, in fact, be considered "armchair moderating." If you disagree with me about something like that in the future, please PM me and we can discuss it privately. Thanks.

I read a few editorials at different Golf webs that talked about C. Kim behavior on the course while at the SC. Some writers mentioned that her behavior was uncalled for. That in an official LPGA or PGA event she would have gotten a severe reprimand and perhaps an outright disqualification. Unfortunately. I am not the best for searching articles at the internet, and I can not find them now.
C. Kim is not the first and will not be the last of LPGA players to do, say, behave in forms that do not fit a prestigious organization as the LPGA. Anyway, in my opinion C.Kim is not a good example of a professional athlete. There are hundreds example of bad behavior in sports but does that not make C. Kim attitude, behavior, interviews, etc., any better.
I definitely believe that a higher up in the LPGA should talk to her about the correct behavior of a professional. They do that in many organizations; obviously it did not work out well with O.J. Simpson (definitely not comparing C.Kim with that killer) and many others pros in many sports, but.... some times it works.
Pros make a lot a money but hopefully they can also be a great example for the next generation. Do not talk to me about the Bonds and Palmeiros and so many athletes that have great abilities but give a horrible example to the next generation taking drugs, cheating, misbehaving. And please never mention Britnney Spears as an example and inspiration for children and teen agers.
