So - what's opinion on the (un)marked area on 18th controversy

So Lo Jo (and anyone else) - I'm sure everyone wants to know what's your take on the controversy on the 18th. It just had to involve Michelle Wie - but the area was marked and the rules officials said they didn't mark it because they didn't think any player would be there. They said they would mark it after Michelle was given the drop and played her shot.

Alison Nicholas was definitely not happy about that ruling.

I was glad that Catriona holed that birdie putt so that it didn't matter in the end (except it added 20 minutes to the match).

Commentators felt that this was pretty unprofessional to not have marked it. They also felt Michelle should just have played from where the ball was and the officials mark the area after that.

I am in agreement that it was a very dicey call, and I feel the officials should have marked it earlier -- since they obviously had discussed the area earlier. I think it was a misjudgment on their part not to think "anyone would be there." It's in the fairway!! And, as one of the Euros pointed out, if someone was going to have to pitch out into the fairway (as Wie did) that's likely where they'd end up.

As to whether she should have been given relief ..... that's a rather 'maybe' situation. An area doesn't have to be marked off in order to obtain relief from damaged ground, etc. , so it would have been a judgment call by the officials if relief was sought.

I, too, am happy that Catriona made her birdie so that the rules call didn't affect the outcome.

Judy Rankin felt Michelle should have played it from its original position because that was a better area than where she was to drop, which was slightly downhill.

You sound surprised.

You didn't seriously expect Wie wouldn't get any preferential treatment?

Why don't you just shut up and go away. We GET that you don't like Michelle Wie.

Why are you interested in the Solheim...none of your Asian players are there -- thank god, or the rounds would be taking even longer than the nearly 6 hrs. they are already taking.

Go away little boy. You have pictures to look at.

Why so grumpy? Aren't you happy that Wie was picked to play in the Solheim Cup?

By the way, once again, a real classy remark -- "none of your Asian players are there -- thank god", almost as classy as the remarks you made about Eun-Hee Ji. Nice.

How could they not think any player would be there? They came across as a bit amateurish.

My remark that it just had to involve Michelle Wie was merely a factual observation that she is often caught up in the middle of a controversy. It was supposed to be a neutral factual observation and was also something the commentators noted.

How you can twist that and interpret it to mean that I expected her to get any preferential treatment is beyond belief. Or perhaps not - since it seems you have your own agenda judging from LoJo's response to you.

My post was not a question on the conduct of any player or captain but about an incident, the rules and the rules officials.

You got that right. I do have an agenda. I would like to see all players treated equally (by the media, tournament organizers, and others) -- or, to be more precise, I would like to see media attention based on performance on the course, and not on perceived popularity and marketability, "potential", national origin, or English speaking capability. Maybe you don't live in the US, but if you lived here, you might be able to understand my point, for here, according to the media, woman's golf = Wie.

Once again, my favorite quote:

Animal Farm - George Orwell

And that agenda is hatred of Michelle Wie.

Karrrlllll....give it up. You've been given folders for your favorite players. Why don't you post things there, and leave Michelle out of your life?
